Historic Jamestown was amazing. This is the first English settlement in the New World. Nothing is left of original Jamestown except for part of the church tower. The rest of the church has been recreated based upon the writings off the settlers. Archeologists have been actively excavating inside the fort and are unearthing the foundation stones of the buildings that were within the fort walls. How terrifying it must have been to come to the New World, been met with the wilderness and have to build everything from scratch. Many settlers died during the 3 month voyage across the ocean. Many, many others died of starvation and disease. There is also evidence of cannibalism!
Nice building! Good job with the photos!
Thank you DNW! I appreciate you taking time to view and your nice comment!

Nice shots and good info Christy.
Nice set. It brings to mind that my sister just discovered a link of my ancestors to James Day, who came here as an indentured servant in 1630. After he was released, he and 100 others went to the forests and founded Hartford Ct. I can't imagine how hard all of that was.
Mike, Pat, and Doddy ... Thank you for taking time to respond! I appreciate it very much. Glad you enjoyed my lil tour into history. :)
Nikonbug, that is so interesting about your family lineage. Makes history even more real for you than of us, though technically we ALL have a link to the past. BUT things change when you put actual names to it!

Beautiful photos and such a sad story....Rich
Thank you Rich. And i agree with you about the saddness of their hardships. The population during one winter went from over 150 down to just 34 (maybe it was 54)-that was a huge decline. :"(
