Anyone ever replace the 1/4-20 stud with a 3/8-16? I want to replace the stud and not use an adapter.

Cut the stud off flush with the crown, drill & tap and Loktite in a 3/8-16 stud.

Which monopod? My Veo monopod has a flip over stud, has 3/8" stud on the other end.

If your concern about an adapter coming loose, you can use Loctite 271 or JB Weld -to attach a 1/4" Female to 3/8" Male Screw adapter and it will NEVER come off. Better and easier than cutting, drilling tapping etc. Must make sure you get stainless steel and not brass.

Unusual that you should actually answer the question that was asked!

I merely assumed the OP knows what he wants.

I have a Vanguard VEO model P-326. DO NOT CUT OFF THE 1/4-20 stud as another hogger has suggested! The stud is reversible. One end is 1/4-20 and the other 3/8-16. Unscrew the large knob that the camera sits on. Pull out the stud, turn it over and screw the knob back on. That's all there is to it.

I've made a lot of money from people who thought red loctite (271)was the answer

Why not just fit it with a 1/4 to 3/8" bushing. Simple and easy. Use a dab of Locktite to keep it from accidentally loosening.

EVEN BETTER AND EASIER!

And I definitely agree that you shouldn't cut it off, drill it and tap it as suggested earlier! More likely to ruin it than fix it!

If needed, the trick with Locktite is to use the right type the right way. "Red" is what I'd use on coarse threads like this. It's stronger and requires heat to release. Don't use "Blue" or "Purple" for this sort of use. Those are weaker (but is preferable for some other applications) to allow unfastening by hand, without heat. "Green" is used when parts are already assembled, to "wick" into the threads. This explanation is simplified, there are actually more types to choose among. For more info, consult https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thread-locking_fluid and similar online resources.
