My daughter, who lives in Olympia, removed the front ring of the Nikon 18-200 lens while taking the lens shade off. That is the slots for the lens shade and the white alignment dot. The lens cap remained attached. The front element and all the good stuff behind it remained intact. After she determined there was no obvious way to reattach it I got the "Hey Dad" call. The lens is more than eight years old so it is clearly not under warranty. Until a few years back before the owner and both long term employees retired and closed the store I would have called the worlds greatest local camera store in Syracuse and they would have told us what to do. (I miss those guys!) She hasn't found a corresponding store in her area so does anyone have any recommendations between Portland and Seattle?

Honest and reputable in Portland

I live in Olympia too. She might call Glazer's Camera shop in Seattle. Phone number is (206)624-1100.
Aahhh, few things feel better than knowing that word of mouth reputation works for small businesses.
Good luck with the repair.
You could try Robi’s Camera in Lakewood, WA
The drive to Kenmore Camera from Olympia will be about an hour and 45 minutes. Besides helping with the lens, it would be worth the drive if she has not been in a camera store recently. Kenmore Camera is one of those great places to learn, browse and shop.
I've not been to Glazer's in Seattle because of the location. It is in the heart of the nastiest construction boom Seattle has ever seen. There is no parking. My son has business there and has to use Uber just to go to meetings.

I have used advance camera in Portland to repair an old Nikon 80-200 push/pull lens and it is perfect now. They've also cleaned several of my cameras. They are fast, friendly and reasonably priced.
Thanks for the recommendations. I have forwarded a link to this thread to her and let her sort this out.

She might also check out Robi in Lakewood. They do repairs but I am not sure about their prices. Sales are fairly reasonable.
