Another fine local camera store closed. Could not compete with the big boys; Amazon and B&H.

In today's world of electronic buying and communicating and actually seeing and touching the product before you purchase are over. A person doesn't have to go into the supermarket to buy groceries anymore, just order on line, drive to the supermarket and a person will load your trunk for you.

What you say is true. The internet provides a greater variety of merchandise to look at. You never wait on line. If you have PayPal you never have to get up and get your credit card.

Their store in Carrboro near Chapel Hill, although I live in New York, is one of my favorite locations for camera gear!!! Hope the closing of Wilmington store is not a harbinger of future problems!!

There are some advantages to buying on line. My wife ordered an adapter for my camera for my birthday, the box came to my door and it was opened, the smaller box with the adapter was still in the box but the purchase order was missing. My wife caller Amazon and they gave me 40% off the purchase price. That said, If I had a choice I'd rather go to a store and buy what I need, looking at and handling an item is a lot better than studying it in a photograph in a magazine.

I am very old school in a lot of ways but I have just come to accept that the way of doing retail business has changed and I just have to adapt to it. I have been idealistic in the past about "buying local' and often paying more, often to find that these local business have eventually closed anyway. We have one independent camera store here in Albuquerque, NM and two in Santa Fe. The owner of our local store, which I try to support when I can, said that about 10 years or so ago there were several thousand independent camera shops nationwide and now there only about 200 to 250. Of course, the brick and morter store here that has the best selection of cameras is Best Buy. I still try to support local businesses when I can but have pretty much had to go to a hybrid approach where I buy from a combination of local stores, chains, and on-line stores. I agree with the opinions above that there can be advantages to buying on-line but there is that sense of personal connection that is lost.

Wow.... I just bought a D500 and other items from them a few months ago.... sad... it was becoming my new 'toy store'!

Small brick and mortar stores are being devoured by on-line shopping - the change is inevitable..... "Alexa, order some ....", "Alexa, where did I leave my glasses??!!"
