Just ordered a new tripod from Adorama. It is the Cullmann Magnesit 519 AL Tripod w/HD Case. Special at $79.00 (shipping & handling included) & with google, reviews are good. Nice replacement for my old german mount that bit the dust.

C. Mamas - it is fantastic. Have to learn what all the twist knobs are for but once you get that under your belt, the options are fantastic. Even the center switch to use it as macro is easy.

For $79.95 delivered it's great. Even for an ole fart like me

I'll remember to check this one out if I can't get my Slik fixed. I love the my slik because it is light, but I don't love that the mechanism that allow you to spread the legs out wear really fast and are poorly designed. They have a three year warranty, but I have to find my warranty card and it seems to have gone missing.

Looks like a good deal. Do you have to buy a quick release plate as well? I didn't realize that was an accessory. Curious, as I haven't bought a tripod for 20yrs., but definitely need one.
thanks, ed

Camera mount quick release is with it. Just rotate the knob and camera slides off. I leave the mount on the camera actually.

Interesting. I've been thinking about getting a smaller tripod. The head alone sells for $45, and the case is $10, and there's free shipping. Like Adorama, I'm in NY, so I'd have to pay sales tax. You live in NH, so you never pay sales tax. :D

8.8 lb, with a max height of 61.8". My heaviest camera/lens combo is just under 4 lb.

I've standarized my stuff with Manfrotto tripod and camera plates. Whatever I have, I can pop it onto any tripod or monopod.

That's a good way to go. I am half way there but I use Slik tripods and monopols and their heads. My only problem is I bought a Opteka Gimbal head and I also use the Manfroto gimbal head for the monopol. I love the Opteka head. I could not afford a Wimbley or the other more expensive heads. The Optecka works great. I had to trim a little of their outside coating of but I knew that when I bought it.
