Leica was the RollsRoyce of Cameras. When they sell a 1923 Leica prototype, I can understand it fetching BIG $$$$$$
Well, it is a prototype. Not only camera collectors, but many museums would love to have this item on display, for its historical significance.
I would challenge anyone to pick up a rangefinder camera and shoot a roll of film. I bet you will use it more often than you think

I have a Leica Rangefinder I shoot with. However, I like the immediate satisfaction of my digital camera looking at the Histogram and making any necessary corrections. My darkroom is gone so I send it away and wait for the film from my Leica.
I think you need to look at what camera is being auctioned.
