I ruined my print head and need a new all-in-one printer. What's your favorite?

I have been using an HP6830 all in one for 2 years and have been very satisfied. And I have owned printers from almost every manufacturer over the years. They are very finicky creatures and will easily self destruct. The initial cost is minimal, but the cost of cartridges is absurd, and you dare not use off brand ink sources.

I have been using Canon printers for many years and should never have used non OEM ink. This is the second printer I've had to replace because non OEM ink ruined the print head (I'm a slow learner). I researched how to clean the print head and followed all the instructions and now a printed page comes out in PINK type! The black ink tanks are full, although the colors are low, so that doesn't explain why it doesn't print text in black. I ordered one set of Canon ink for a last ditch effort to resurrect this $60 printer.

I already have a Canon Pro 10 dedicated to picture printing, although I may occasionally print a picture on the all in one.

That being said, I could be swayed to switch brands for my office work printer. It needs to scan, copy, & print and not put me in the poor house buying ink!! I've even considered a color laser printer. Replacement toner cartridges cost more than the printer, but that is true for ink jet printers too. The difference is the number of times they need to be changed for best results.

I've looked at so many options that my head is spinning and would really like to hear what you all like.

I would still recommend Canon. In my case, Apple AirPrint is a requirement. I used to recommend HP but had a terrible time with several and gave up on them. Epson makes good inkjets also, but make sure your choice meets your wireless needs.

I have had many of the printers mentioned. Had expensive Epson large printers and all-in-ones. Wanted a basic biz printer and after my 2nd epson replacement making 3 I gave up. In office supply store and talked with an HP rep. Bought the HP office jet pro 8710. And got their replenishment deal with a few months free. I was shocked how long the carts lasted and the quality of just copies. It works so much better then the epsons and canon I had. I am not sure what I am paying I get a 10 dollar charge on one of my cards once in a while. Then I was shocked how good the printer was on hp brochure paper.
Expensive but great paper. Then I printed a couple of my images without even resetting the prefs and color prints were photo quality. Now I think I could tweak this printer to make even better prints. Not gallery quality. I printed 50 images and photo illustrations
And put them all over my office room. I requested more ink to make marketing promo at trade show and then sent me xtra ink at no charge. The promos looked like a digital print shop did them. Then I read this printer series is a gem.

Definitely the Canon of your choice. I have several Canon printers and none of them have ever been a problem.

This is reasonably priced, doesn't use individual tanks and has a low quality scanner, so it is out of the running.

Thank you for your input, though.

Agree on tanks. Disagree on scan.

HP Envy 4250 can do a LOT of things including auto print on both sides!

I have the Envy 4520. Wireless, makes decent prints, can print on both sides and is eligible ( as are some other models) for HP's Instant Ink program which I really like. HP monitors your ink levels and will send you ink automatically. You basically pay by the number of prints you make but my monthly charge is usually only around $3.00 for up to 30 prints any size, and that is for both cartridges. You can cancel at any time. I have never run out since I signed up. Check with HP for all the gory details.

I have used both Epson and Canon printers over the years and both work phenomenally with the correct paper.

I would avoid HP printers though because although their print quality is comparable to everyone else their ink is more expensive.

I've always used HP and filled up the ink with Costco ink....just replaced a Officejet 6700 after little tiny gears fell out of the printer...with an HP Officejet 4655; $75 at Costco. The gears were so cute - I just couldn't figure out where they belonged!

I have used nothing but Epson printers for years. I now have a Epson XP-960 for printing large photos and other things. I also have an Epson ET-2500 for general printing (it also does nice 8X10 photos) and it is VERY stingy with the ink. Low, Low, cost. I use only OEM ink and cycle each printer once a week. Just my take.

I print a LOT and have been using Canon printers for many years and have been very happy with them. I wore out my last (Pixma 4900 as I recall) after almost 5 years. I typically went through about $300 a year in ink. I bought a G3200 with the refillable tanks a little over a year ago (direct from Canon as they were brand new). I just refilled the black tank, but have about 1/3 of each color left. It works great as a printer and scanner. Mine has almost paid for itself already. The ink bottles cost about the same as a cartridge and have about 10 times the ink. Note that there are 5 different model of the G series, depending what features you want and I note that they have dropped the prices since I bought mine.

I have had Epson Stylus Photo R2400 for almost 10 years, with hardly any problems. The ink is a bit pricey, but the prints are excellent.

I tried washing out the print head on my HP Officejet 6500A+ and it didn't work, so I replaced it with an Epson Workforce W3640. I'm very happy with the Epson -- it's a better printer and much better scanner than the HP. However, my point is that after purchasing the Epson and before trashing my HP, I tried washing out the print head again as I had a lot of unused HP cartridges. About the 3rd or 4th wash, the print head worked again as well as new. So don't give up too quickly on restoring that clogged print head. You may end up with two fully functioning printers like I did.

The following has worked for me: 1. move cartridges off of print head. 2. spray "Windex Original" onto print heads. 3. Return cartidges to print head-allow printer to remain off for a few days. 5.Next, try a simply head cleaning-up to 3-4 times. If this does not show any improvement, then repeat step #2 and thru #5 again. Should cleaning cycle not give u good results, then try a "deeper" cleaning cycle by bringing up a photo to print, and PRINT it. If the colors are still not good, however better, then do the following: Find a source on line to download sample of each of the individual colors in your cartidges, scan into your computer these sample colors, then print them out, individually for up to 5 times each. Should this Not correct your problem, then, junk the printer. The above procedures had kept my old Epson Stylus Pro going for many years! Hope it works for you. Stan
