PS: I like to shoot the old cabins/rail fences, etc. in black and white and sepia this time of year to get that effect you see in old photos.

When you visit Cades Cove, early morning is beautiful and not crowded that time of day.

Smokies rank as the most visited park, Cades Cove area alone would rank #6. Been there many times, early morning is beautiful ,but depending on time of year can also be crowded,especially during leaf season.

I would also consider a visit to the Nantahala Outdoor Center. If there is extra water, there will be white water kayaking going on.
Also add the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest to your list. A chance to see virgin forest.

There is a good walk out of Metcalf Bottom up little greenbrier.It goes by little greenbrier school house and on to Walker sisters cabin.Both log structures.

It may be early for wildflowers. April is spectacular. Chimney Top Picnic area is good for wildflowers. My favorite is Porter Creek Trail in the Greenbrier Section of the Park. There is a good chance of seeing elk at Oconneluftee (sp?) visitor's Center on 441 near Cherokee. You can get the waterfall book there. Clingman's Dome is also good for sunset.

Going to Gatlinburg the first week of May on our Honeymoon. I too am copying all of this information here for photo ops. From what I am seeing on UHH we maight have to take a MONTH to do it justice. Shouldn't be any weather issues at that time, right? LOL
