I agree with Steve Perry. Magmod is the most versatile and portable method for flash modifiers in the field.

Agree for those who are serious about a flash extender. More durable & versatile. Only downside is that it's less compact and costs more. Nice to have a choice.
I have the MagMod... Love the whole MagMod System of modifiers...
Had a Better Beamer but sold it when I sold my Wimberly gimbal.
MagMod is sturdier and easier to use in my opinion.
Best,

Hey Hogs,
I've been reading a little about flash extenders for wildlife photography. Just curious how many of you use a flash & extender? What flash you use and how you have it set up with your camera?
Thanks
It totally depends on if you want to make one to light everything up for anywhere from $2 to $15 US bucks or buy a simple version like the Better Beamer for eye candy appeal.
About 15-20 years ago I made one for my flash and with much trial and error aiming it, got it to work pretty good at over 150 yards away. Every so often I play around with them. Improved version then get tired and throw it away.
The last one I played with, (10 years ago ???), was about 20" square and had a small rifle scope to aim with. I was going for a half mile distance. I actually got a dog a bit further but in about a couple weeks of trying, never really got it to aim reliably. LoL Fun to play with though!
