Hey Hogs,
I've been reading a little about flash extenders for wildlife photography. Just curious how many of you use a flash & extender? What flash you use and how you have it set up with your camera?
Thanks

I use the MagMod on the SB5000 (previously on the SB910). Works well and sturdier than the better beemer. However, it's not something I use all the time, only when absolutely necessary - like for small warblers in shadowy branches.

I occasionally use a Better Beamer - but because you illuminate the branches in front of the target, it is a piece of gear that often remains in the bag. When I have a clear shot, it sometimes comes out.

I use a Better Beamer FX-3 with a 580EX, although I have not used it much for wildlife.

I mostly use the better beamer. It fits flat in its storage bag and works quite well.

The better Beamer is in my kit and works well when I need it.

Better Beamer here. I don't know if it is the best, but back when I got my first one they were about the only game in town.

BETTER BEAMER. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/585196-REG/Visual_Echoes_FX_6_FX6_Better_Beamer_Flash.html?sts=pi

But, I rarely use it, I like the sun coming in over my back, so I shoot early morning and late afternoon and have the sun coming in over my shoulder, I like it that way and do not need to take the flash with me.

Better Beamer at (-1 1/3) power. Adds catchlight in eye, sparkle and sharpness to feathers.

i do , use the better beamer [ cheap ] the only thing i did is to permanently glued it together [ it was foldable ] .i carry it in a belt bag , so , when i need it , i just pop it on the camera , turn flash on , adjust flash power output .

A biased review is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wespk8Ijj8 . The Better Beamer may be more popular than the MagMod because it packs away more compactly, is cheaper and has been on the market longer. (I use a Better Beamer.)

I've been using a couple of the Better Beamer Flash Extenders for many years. I use them on Canon 550EX and 580EX II flashes. I like that they can be folded up flat for easy storage.

When I'm sitting in a blind shooting skittish birds, or animals I use a box, with a fresnel lens. This lens on the strobe concentrates the flash where I want it. I don't remember the brand of the boxy looking modifier, but it mounts to the flash, and is aimed at the subject. When I use it I shoot at full power, or 80% power in manual mode. Of course every situation is different, you have to make a decision on what type of lighting you will need for that specific shot.

I sometimes use the better beamer, it sure does extend the reach of your flash ( you can put a catch light in animals that are quite a distance away)!
