Chuck, thanks for the comments. Wherever the balance of his tail is a mystery. I just hope he makes it through his troubles.

Tough. They do wrap their tails over toes, belly and nose, but a few degrees lost on a cold night is the least of his worries. He's now unable to signal many things to his cohorts or a girlfriend, and more importantly, he's lost a major balance tool, and a rudder when leaping. He'll need some practice!

The only thing I know for sure is that I will help to keep his belly full. Everything else you point out is possible and I hope to be able to document these shortcomings he has. As far as girlfriends go, has he not already lost out on that potential?

Yeah I have to agree. He was stubborn enough to lose what he has instead of running from it.

Sue, I can keep his belly full but the rest is really up to him. I do think he has enough spunk that he will make it.

I raised one & released him back to nature gradually but another squirrel attacked him and he ended up losing a fair bit of his tail but he survived and lived for around 5 yrs. I had a couple squirrel houses in my trees he stayed in them for awhile but moved on. He came back to eat they love black oil sunflower seeds there favorite, I would feed him shelled walnuts sometimes and apple slices and dried corn on the cob. I knew it was him by the tail also a notch in his ear and he always would eat out of my hand. Good luck with your little squirrel.
