Does anyone have a technique for making a shoulder strap to carry a tripod(vanguard).Describe the materials and connections.Attached find picture of female attachment on vanguard. I know jerry must have one he has rigged up and the other photo regulars. Thanks!! Need something that is comfortable on the shoulder. I went out on a photo shoot with my camera club, and a few of the people complained of a sore shoulder after awhile.
Tripod attachment
I just wrap (tie) both ends of a new camera strap just under the head.. works fine when your hands are full. Send me $5 I'll send you a FREE Smugmug photo strap. Include your address. Interested?
I put one on my Manfrotto (it has the lever-type section locks.) I just put a split ring on the top section lock - the bolt that holds it on. The top has the same style lug as yours. The strap came from an art portfolio/carry case I used in school.
Free for $5, pretty good.

What does the strap look like?

This is what I use. It is not DIY but it isn't terribly expensive and it works great.

My first Vanguard Tracker 4 came without a strap. When I bought another about a year later, it included a lefty strap. I generally don't use it, but it comes in handy when I'm carrying other things.
The clip on the strap attaches to an eye on the tripod, and the Velcro strap wraps around a leg. Quick and easy. And it was free! You get the free strap with every purchase of the $150 tripod.
Eagle Optics sells a tripod carrier that resembles a backpack.. it is called a glasspack. I have one and like it. I have used for for both a spotting scope and camera.
Walking around with a tripod can be awkward, especially when setting up for a quick shot. My solution is to leave the camera attached to the tripod and to have the tripod set at a comfortable working height. A small foam pad on my shoulder and I am able to carry tripod and camera in one hand or on my shoulder.

I thought I had attached a photo, but it didn't make the trip. Let's try that again.
My Vanguard came with a cary case and a strap. Haven't used either, yet, except to pack in a suitcase. Tried attaching to rear of backpack camera case, but with all the camera gear it was heavy and unwieldly. Guess when the need arises I'll just use the case and strap that came with the tripod. May give the strap a try without the case.
