I have always preferred FedEx over any other form of delivery service. I never, ever had a problem with them. The reason I would not want anything of value delivered by USPS is that if it fits in my mailbox, then that's where they will "stuff it". I once had to go to the post office because I could not get a package out of the mailbox (a book from Amazon). the driver can load the packages from his side, but the front of the box has a ridge and I could not remove the book without damaging it. That's my opinion.

Don't expect much from any of them every time. I've had a tower computer left on my porch and I did not expect it for weeks. Dell / Costco never informed me it had been shipped. Luckily no one messed with it. Prior to that I had known the monitor was coming and stayed home for that. Crazy, no signature was required for any of it. That was all on Dell and / or Costco. More recently I had the USPS hold a used camera for me at the P.O. as I had to go out during my regular delivery period. Even that got screwed up because the postal worker told me to call her from the lobby and she'd meet me at the service window. Guess what, it seems the USPS has their phone system set up not to take phone calls from phones outside their local service area. My Smartphone has a number for a different county where I own another home. The lady could not get my call and they were not open to the public yet so I had to act like a psycho and bang on the door until I got someone's attention. Once they found her it was OK as she had my package at her desk in the back work area.

I received an order from B&H via FedEx yesterday. I stayed around all day waiting for it and it arrived after dark. I was told they deliver until 8 p.m. I prefer daylight hours.

USPS service is up and down. Never know what to expect. UPS service has improved recently, different driver. Do not expect it to last. FedEx is normally the best but they have not been very good lately. I have had three boxes from KEH come in, all should have been signed for, and they were left at the door. Glad we live in a good neighborhood.

Last fall I ordered a lens hood from KEH. Conducted the transaction online. KEH's ordering software kept changing my address to something that, geographically, was the location of my house, but NOT the postal address for the house. OK, I thought, let's see how this plays out. Long story short - the item ended up in the return bin at my post office because no such USPS address existed, therefore, no delivery could be made. Since the item was trackable, I knew where it was and drove the couple of miles to the post office and picked it up.

Moral of the story - First, in this case, the issue was with KEH. And second, when I order again from KEH (and I will use them again), if the post office address for my residence won't come up when I order online, I'll place the order over the phone.

Do not like FEDEX! Period. I have had a number of issues with them. I have physical addresses in both Arizona and Texas with my billing address is in Arizona. Because of that I am very careful about reviewing orders before placing them. Several weeks before last Christmas I placed several orders specifying delivery to my Texas address; one went to my billing address in Arizona, one to my physical address in Arizona and, oh yeah, one actually got to me here in Texas. All by FEDEX. UPS on the other hand never fails. We live in the country here in E. Texas and get deliveries several times per week. I hardly ever see Fedex around here, don’t miss them.

Interesting info about FedEx drivers being contract workers. I did not know that, and it explains some of the difficulties I have had in the past with items being shipped via FedEx rather than UPS or USPS. I’m expecting a FedEx delivery today - 2 packages expected according to yheir tracking info.

FedEx Ground is a subset of the FedEx delivery company, and their drivers are contract employees. There are other segments of the FedEx delivery system in which the delivery drivers are corporate employees.

Quoting Warren Rowe: “I have noticed that it seems like most camera vendors seem to be using FedEx for shipping instead of USPS like I would like to use preferrably because I have a PO Box for a reason. Any thoughts from anyone concerning FedEx, or want to share their own experiences?”

Most camera vendors use UPS (the “brown truck”) and, on occasion use FedEx. KEH uses FedEx. Some will use USPS, but inexplicably charge customers more for that service. They explain that they have contractural agreements and prefer to use an “expedited” (if not very expedient) shipping service when they can. In my area, FedEx likes to estimate a 12-hour delivery DAY anytime between 8am and 8pm during which they can arrive at any time (and God help you if you happen to be on the john when they do). I hate ‘em both, but permit vendors to use them if that is the only way to get the stuff I want. /Ralph

I'm sure many people have something negative to say about just about anything. Why should package delivery be any different. Judging from some of the responses I read, one would think these carriers have a conspiracy going against some of their customers.
Personally and through work, I've been dealing with FedEx and UPS for many, many years and their miss-shipment is remarkably low considering the volume they handle and the locations they will deliver to.
For certain deliveries I will have FedEx hold the package at their local facility for me to pick up.
I can say I fall into the little to no problem category when it comes to FedEx.

I wonder how FEDEX got the post office box address? And further, FEDEX does not deliver to a post office box. Something is wrong. I wonder what it could be?

That isn't what he said. What he said was it won't be delivered to a PO Box.

You cannot even get through their shopping cart with another address, even a UPS Store, and complete an order. Has to do with expensive equipment going missing in transit. Oh, and a signature is absolutely required, even for my UPS Driver, who is the most accommodating sort.

Hmmmm. I order from Adorama and always use an address different from my billing address.

Somebody always has a beef with one of the delivery services or a vendor or a software provider or whatever.... Just realize that this world is made up of various people that have problems like you and me and everyone else, whether they're with a delivery service or a vendor or software provider or whatever. Just be calm and try to find out the actual root of the problem and pretty soon... presto!!! It gets solved. Be happy that we live better than 90% of the rest of the several billions of other people on this planet. Problems won't look so bad after all....
