A defective copy, is certainly possible, therefore can not with absolute certainty rule out your suggestion. However, if you search, reviews and test, i think you will find more opinions indicating lack of sharpness. You will find loads of folks desiring a lens with what many consider the perfect focal length, and most are having to make a decision to accept less, until Canon can really improve this lens sharpness. An attempt was made, with the series ll but not by enough.
A search will turn up folks on both sides of this debate. Many folks are satisfied with the sharpness of there lens, that however might only be an indicator of what that person will accept as "good enough".

I have Canon 6d mk2 camera with the above lens but haven't been happy with results regarding focus sharpness. I upgraded from a 550d apsc body. Tried the L lens on old body and still not good. Put on my old Efs 55-250is lens on 550d and results so much sharper. I know I can micro adjust this L lens on the 6d mk2 body but stuck with results on the 550d body. Very disappointed with the results of what is supposed to be a quality lens. What else can I do? If I had just invested in so called superior glass for my old body as so many people suggest, then I would be one very unhappy camper!!!

My Sigma 24-105mm is very sharp and cheaper than the Canon version.

Until you post a photo, and check "store original" every thing about your lens is just conjecture. A lens that you say does not AF as sharp as you expect, could have a easy fix, or you may have to send it in for repair. The problem could be as easy as a front focus issue, or a back focus issue, which can be cleared up by micro adjustment. An other problem could be a internal lens is out of alignment, which will need a technician to fix. YOU have been REPEATABLY ASKED to POST a PHOTO to help the members determine YOUR PROBLEM. Why not cooperate, and help your self.

Yes, Tony Northup did a review of both the Sigma and the Canon - with the Sigma winning.

Couldn't agree more. I've used it for fully 90% of my 30,000 shots over the years and couldn't be happier with the results.

I've never been all that impressed with the EF 24-105mm f/4L. The much less expensive EF 28-135mm has just as good or better IQ, USM focus speed and general performance. The L feels better built, but doesn't actually seem to be any more durable or dust/weather resistant. They both have IS and on both it's an older type that gives 2-3 stops of assistance, needs to be turned off manually if the lens is locked down on a tripod.

The EF 24-105L "II" improved it's IS system and got the new "Nano USM" focus drive (not any faster, but a lot quieter and smoother). It's IQ is about the same as the original, and only time will tell if it's more durable.

Either of the current Canon EF 24-70mm are better lenses. The 24-70mm f/2.8L "II" is sometimes called "a bag full of primes", it's got such excellent IQ. It just lacks IS and is relatively large, heavy.... plus it's pricey. If maximum IQ were wanted and money no object, this is the lens to buy. The older, original 24-70mm f/2.8L that it replaced is also excellent, though it doesn't have quite as good IQ.

The 24-70mm f/4L IS has stabilization, almost as good IQ, is the closest focusing of any Canon lens other than the macros (can do .70X magnification on its own), is a bit smaller and lighter, as well as close to half the price of the f/2.8 version. If you want a bit more compact lens is wanted and you prefer to keep some of your money, this is the lens to buy (as a bonus, with it you might not need a macro lens either).

I've heard good things about the Tamron 24-70/2.8 VC USD, too... But have not used personally and compared it to any of the Canon. I haven't used the Sigma 24-105mm either.

I get very good results with my first model 24-105L f/4 on every body I have used it on (6D, 7DII, 5DIV and 80D).

Take it to the camera store and ask them to check it out. You also might check out the latest firmware for each body. I had one lens that did not play well with my 7DII and a firmware update fixed it.

YES! Mine is exceptionally sharp! Real happy with the pic's. Would be nice to get the new lock feature though!

Take off any "protective" filters and do a focus test ......with BOTH bodies.

The FIRST you should do with any new lens.

..

Is it possible you are using AI Servo vs One Shot AF?

At the very beginning of this thread, the OP, Migreen53, was asked to download one, or more of the problem photos. So far the OP has not posted one photo for us to look at and possibly determine exactly where the problem lies either with his 6D Mark II, or with the EF 24-105mm f4L USM lens. From reading his past posts, both his camera, and lens should be in warranty, and the OP obviously is in New Zealand. The OP did post he was going to try manual focus Vs AF, but he has not posted his results. So, I'm not going to wait around while this guy will not respond.
