Hey, I am excited for this new journey that I am on. I have been an artist most of my life, I love color, space, and texture. I spend a lot of time out doors and have been taking pictures of nature verses mans creations for about 2 years. I have an eye for composition and I am hoping to take my photos to the next level and to hone in my technical skills. Lots to learn. Would live any comments or help along the way.
Great that you are an artist first. The ability to pre-visualize what you want puts you way ahead. Now, just learn what you can do with camera/lens and show us some more of your work!
Just posted some new photos. Would love any helpful advise.
I'm curious. Which of the photos you posted would you choose as a subject to paint (or draw, or make an etching of, or do in whatever medium(s) you preferred)? Which elements in that photo would you focus on, or which would you eliminate or play down in some way? By all means, keep on with your photography, but it seems to me that your background should inform what you do now, and essentially what skills you want to hone.
All good questions. You sound like a teacher. I would probably not paint any of theses photos. I enjoy abstract and color. Crafts and introducing beginning artists to explore their own creativity and potential. The color and texture that I find in nature far exceed anything that I am able to recreate on canvas. I find a whole new world in photographing the textures and color that are all around us. Every day I see shapes and images that I would never be able to recreate. That is why I am so intrigued with photography and a new found medium to create with.

Welcome to the Hog. With your background in painting you have the visual skills now you just need to learn to use your camera. The manual is your friend, so is youtube UHH and Google.
