Great idea. That's why I came here. Those 15 years in Texas where ya had to shoot everything, Roadrunners, Armadillo, rats, squirrels, dog sized deer, over the barbed wire fence and being here was exciting and not all the hazards were readily recognizable by a flat-lander. I learned about a new kind of "work" that day and do things a little differently now. :-) I know a little more about wildlife habits and when to just wait 'em out.

Maybe that's my biggest problem with Egrets, I'm always just driving by either in a car or a boat, when I see them. As you know, when I get my camera out they fly away. I should get some bird fee or use my bait fish and just sit there like you do in duck hunting and see if I can get a closer shot.

Maybe I should just go to a wildlife refuge, where the birds aren't so scared of humans.

Any suggestion guy?

There's not much more satisfying than catching 'em in the wild but a six-pack in a cooler and yer butt on the nice warm hood of a jeep deep in the forest early in the morning or late in the day are both pretty comforting. :-) I can't tell you much about egrets but I know some folks who can, people like "gator, TraceyG, adubin," etc... By the way, I enjoyed your pelican shots. We get 'em up here some, white ones with black tips on their wings. They're really big birds.
quote=Rachel quote=gessman quote=eskiles Pushin... (show quote)

Wow, those are really different looking pelicans, I like your shot a lot, I feel that in white they are beautiful...... but I must ask: are they as dumb as the ones here in LA? I mean I love the bird, but they are somemore stupid. :D
quote=gessman quote=Rachel quote=gessman quote... (show quote)

They may be. I kept telling 'em to come closer and they just looked away. I will say that they're a little more considerate than those coastal birds who just sit around on any piece of dark wood they can find and spend all their time trying to turn it white. These guys soar real high overhead usually in a flock and only land in the water. They're about the largest bird I've seen.
quote=Rachel quote=gessman quote=Rachel quote=... (show quote)

In case ya did'nt know the brown Pelican is LA state bird. We like them big and we like them stupid. Which is why we use Napoleanian law here. We like to be different. :lol:
quote=gessman quote=Rachel quote=gessman quote... (show quote)

I thought they finally got rid of the Napoleonic law? I know it plays hell with the US laws!!
quote=Rachel quote=gessman quote=Rachel quote=... (show quote)

Nope, we still go off of Napoleonic law as far as I know. The rule is: it's legal as long as you don't get caught. :lol: sound likes us, eh?

okay, I'm streching it, but here's my wildlife picture for today, it's my semi-farel cat. She's enjoying the anticipation of Mardi Gras. don't let her fool you, she's as mean as a snake. Still I love her so much.

It's really hard to get a good wildlife photo in the suburbs. I open by back door and the only thing I see is mosquitoes. :lol:

Still, wish I was into photography when I live in South Africa and in the Carolina's.

just thought I'd add this.

The last time I had crabs was in Maryland and they brought them out in a bushel basket steaming hot and dumped them on the table!
