Birds are what I do. I guess I dislike birds done badly or birds done boringly. Out of a whole day of shooting, if I am lucky I get one shot that I like. Here is that one shot--cropped but no other fussing. Cinnamon Teal taken at San Jacinto Wildlife Area in California. D810, Nikkor 80-400 zoom.
Nice. Is there a way to separate the 2?
Teal are notoriously finicky about being seen--it has something to do with hunters. If you look closely there is some out of focus stuff in the foreground, as I was peeking up over cover. The only shot where I captured the two together was this one--they slipped behind the grass in the foreground or turned away or hid. If I processed the photo, I would lighten the dark tones a little, but that's all. You get what you get with wildlife.
Very well done Kristen. I photograph mostly birds and they are tough subjects. Great light. vz
I know what you mean, Kristen. I take several hundred to get a few good ones. Nice job.
Beautiful, I've never seen one before!
Nice!...in order to shoot a Teal you have to point in the direction they are going & they fly so fast they will run into your shot from behind! They have cost me a lot of shells years ago...(when I used to hunt!)

Excellent Kocart and loved everything about the image and haven't seen any Cinnamons posted for quite a while!
Are you sure it is the birds being difficult or do YOU have very high expectations!
Lovely shot! must take a lot of patience to get a perfect shot (that is only in your head) but better not to "play" with it..Be pleased with what you have achieved There is a difference between a good shot and a processed shot but both have their own satisfaction I suppose in what is achieved.

Thank you so much. One can never discount luck when photographing birds. The trick is to take advantage of it!

The amazing thing is that these were in a hunting preserve--I wasn't noticed and that 80-400 zoom came in handy here! Thanks so much.
