More beauties Vicki! You should take a folder around to pet and vet shops! I think you would find a handsome income from that! Pet owners would natch them up in a minute!

I don't think I'm quite ready to quit my day job, but I certainly had fun with this project. Actually, everyone who worked the event commented on what fun they had. Even though there's still a lot to learn about editing, I feel like the learning curve isn't as intimidating. You'll be among the first to know if I go pro. LOL Maybe when I grow up or retire.

Thanks so much Bill. I really appreciate your vote of confidence.

Many of you have seen some recent efforts I've made to do pet portraits for a fundraiser. The following are some from the most recent shoot.

For the most part, the animals were great posers. When one family wanted a shot with their dog, cat and rabbit, we started out with the dog (not pictured), then added the cat (the fluffy one) for a second set. When the rabbit was brought in, the cat took a swipe at the rabbit, hissed and ran off. I ended up getting shots of the rabbit separately while the owner held him in a black towel on his back just so his feet would show. You have to admit it's not your average view, but they liked it.

I thought about using a black prop for the backgrounds as you've suggested. I have a large piece of black velvet tacked to stretcher bars that I considered using (I occasionally put it behind flower arrangements). It works well but tends to collect lint that I later have to edit out. For some of these images a black towel was used and worked fairly well, but I really wanted to learn how to put subjects on a different background. Obviously I still need to work on technique or go back to the tried and true. It's all part of a grand journey of experimentation.

I value your suggestion SpyderJan and will certainly put that to good use if I have another opportunity to shoot more pets. Thanks so much.

I certainly hope that you have another opportunity to shoot more pets. They are wonderful subjects. If you had any problems calming them down, it doesn't show in the portraits.

I can't take credit for keeping animals calm. Fortunately there was a fairly good sized group of helpers which included people to handle paper work and some to do traffic control while a couple of others handled the dogs. Owners walked around in plain sight of the dogs to keep their attention or put them back into "sit, stay" positions if they were obedience trained. One cat was a poser, the fluffy one had to be held. My role was to get the shots. I felt I had the fun job.

I would do this again in a heartbeat and hope there will be more opportunities, with or without the extra help. Thanks again Jan.

I'm grateful for the time you've taken with this series PH CIB. I think the rabbit was a welcome addition to the effort as well as a bit of a surprise. Wish there had been more exotics in the mix. I should have taken my chinchilla but suspect she'd have escaped with a couple of cats running after her.
