I've been told that Nikon have always had the same lens mount but some lenses don't fit modern cameras for some reason. This is a lot in a local action, can anyone tell me, will these two lenses fit on my D7200...?
Cheers,
Ron.

The type of lenses for this particular Nikkormat can't be mounted on the D7200 but the lenses seem to be newer than the camera body. At least the lens that is on the camera is an AI lens by the look of the rabbit ear and it can be used on the D7200. The smaller lens standing on its mount I don't know. I can see the rabbit ear well and I don't see the secondary aperture scale (which is on the AI lenses) and I do not see the AI coupling ridge so may be it's a pre AI lens and can not be used on the D7200. I can't tell anything about the longer lens that is laying down.

The mount may be the same, but the Nikkormat era lenses will not have the connections for auto focus and will not connect with the meter on your D7200 nor will the camera control the f/stop. The Nikkormat and the Nikon Ftn had built in meters, but were strictly manual cameras. You adjusted the f/stop by turning the f/stop ring on the lens that connected to the camera meter with the 'rabbit ear' you see on the lens.

This website might give you an idea of some of the issues involved in mounting old lenses on newer nikon cameras.

Some of the other lens compatability sites may give you further insight. Keep in mind that it is possible to damage your camera body if you are not careful with some of the old lenses, which might require modifications.

Thanks for you help guys...I'll contact the auction house and see if they can give me more details...I realise they will only be "manual" in my DSLR...

You are wrong all lens can be used as long as they have an ai notch , they DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE WHAT YOU CALL RABBIT EARS it's a meter coupling prong for OLDER CAMERAS they all will work fine on a d7200 in aperture priority or manual as long as you enter what they are entered in non cpu lens section in the menu of the d7200. A lot of times when I ai lens I have found the milling of the notch cuts away the screws so as not to be able to remount the meter coupling prong this is not a problem if you dont plan on using the lens on older cameras that need the coupler. You will still need to make sure they are AI or have been modified . If you don't you stand a chance of deforming the meter prong on the camera as the AI ring is a tad long . The op still has to make sure these lens have the AI notch. You can also use all pin drive auto focus called AF lenses early model pin drives before the advent of swm driven lens .

All F-mount Nikons can take F-mount lenses. Way back sure, Nikon had screw mount lenses but those are exceedingly rare today. Not something to consider. Some of the earlier F-Lenses might have to be modified today. The the Famous chart most Nikon users know about on the WEB.

On my D7100 I can use A and it will meter for me. I understand it won on the D7500 so you will need to check on your camera. - Dave - I lied - A works on my old T mount lenses but not on older Nikon. Need to go to M. - Dave

The D7200 doesn't need the rabbit ear but since the lens which is mounted on the camera I can't see the AI notch but I know the shape of the rabbit ear is different from an AI and Pre AI lenses. If the rabbit ear has the 2 holes cut out it's an AI lens. The pre AI lenses don't have the cut out. Since the lens on the camera has the 2 holes on the rabbit ear I can tell that it is an AI lens and can be used on the D7200. The reason for the cut out is to let light in so that you can see the f/5.6 in the viewfinder. I can't see the AI notch nor the secondary aperture scale and I can't see if the rabbit ear has the holes or not on the standing up lens so I think it's a pre AI lens. However, the lens doesn't have a scallop focusing ring so it's a new Pre AI lens perhaps introduced in 1976. The laying down lens also has the newer style focusing ring but I can't tell if it's AI lens or not.

Now that I am sure.
The lens on the camera is the 35-70mm f/3.3-4.5 AI and can be used on the D7200
The laying down lens is the 200mm f/4 AI lens and also can be used on the D7200. I see now the shape of the rabbit ear.
The standing up lens is the 105mm f/2.5 pre AI lens and can not be used on the D7200.
The seller description is wrong as there is no f/1.4 lens in the bunch.

That’s a shame because the 100 2.5 is an awesome portrait lens.

The one on the camera and the one in the middle are AI and can meter in A or M modes on a D7200. The AI lenses had two holes in the the little tab on the aperture ring and the f/numbers were different colors. Many pre-AI lenses were modified to the AI spec. Later model film Nikons didn't use a pin to couple to the aperture tab but had a small tab on the camera lens mount which was operated by a shoulder on the aperture ring of the lens usually located about 1 stop from minimum f/stop. The D7100/7200 both have this feature as do the FF bodys. You do need to enter the Maximum focal length and widest f/stop for each older manual lens you plan on using in the Non CPU lens list on the cameras menu and select it when mounting that lens. I have 6 AI manual lenses programmed into my body and they all work perfect. Of course you will have to manual focus. No biggie back in the day we all had to! When you switch back to a "Automatic" lens the body knows what you put on so you don't need to turn anything off in the menus. The sample shot was taken with a 105 Micro Nikkor f/4 AI that I bought in the early 80's. D750 1/800 f/11 ISO 3200 handheld in aperture mode. BTW the lens stops down to where you select only after you press the shutter release. I'm thinking of getting a D7200 for a second body. The crop sensor will make my Tamron look like 900MM!
