The new Auto tone processing that has been introduced in LR provides a very good first approximation processing of RAW images. But I've not found a way to apply it in bulk to a large number of images. I've tried using the Sync button for this purpose and that does seem to adjust all of the selected images, but I don't get exactly what I want.
I want each image to be analyzed and the appropriate adjustments made to each image. Instead, what seems to happen is that the first image is analyzed and those adjustments (the ones suited to that first image) are applied to the first image but also to all of the other images.
Is there some way to get LR to do what I want?
I'm interested in this as well.
In the grid display in the Library module, select all the images to process. Display the Quick Develop panel on the right side of the display. From there, you have access to "Tone Control" and can initiate Auto Tone on all the images selected. LR will process each image individually. You can then begin customizations of the individual images in Develop.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try.
Adding to CHG_CANON's approach, you can create a preset.
The new, improved "Auto" button does not do anything for things like sharpening, clarity and noise reduction. Pick a "typical" image add a dash of of the additional settings using your habits as a guide. Click the button for making a preset, check the boxes including 'auto' and save it.
The advantage of using a preset is that it can be applied to one image, a lot of images and, best of all, even on import.
Adding to bsprague's post, LR has a built in preset to do it during the Import process. Once Import is selected, in the right panel, under "Apply During Import", you can select Develop Settings>Lightroom Presets>General - Auto Tone.
Of course this only does the Auto Tone. If you want to add anything other than Auto Tone adjustments during import, you will need to create a User Preset as bsprague mentioned.
I'm finding that it makes a nice place to start in that the previews look better during the reject/select stage.
Continuing with Presets, you can create rather sophisticated presets. I've developed presets based on the ISO settings of the image where I've developed unique noise defaults per ISO setting. You can make preset parameters specific to a camera model and so forth. But, my approach requires first importing and then filtering by ISO in the Library using Metadata filters where ISO can be selected. You can also run AUTO during the import and then apply other settings by presets. I've found you can also edit the preset files using a text-editor where sometimes managing my existing presets is easier done by editing the files directly. There's a lot of options and a lot of power within LR to be every efficient in your bulk-processing of images.
