I have used Open Office and its successor Libre Office, but doesn’t have all the functionality I need since I write complicated macros in excel which I can not write in libre office.

It depends upon the functionality that you need, but perhaps compatibility for sharing files with other people would be a consideration.

If you do things like pivot tables and similar then they may not play nicely with Excel. They didn't used to, but things may have changed. If it is just for your own use, then that makes things much easier.

Thank you, I chose LibreOffice . . . it does what I need.

I have used MS Office since Win3.1. My wife was slow to learn technical stuff so I pretty much stalled on Office 2003. A couple years ago I got a Win10 machine and had a lot of trouble trying to install my old Office 2003 on it so I tried Libre Office.

Libre office seems to do everything the old MS Office 2003 does. The files are almost compatible but not quite. A lot of formatting gets screwed up when I produce a file in Libre Office and try to work on it in MS Office 2003 or vice versa. It was a real hassle so I eventually went for MS Office 365.

I suspect that if you only use Libre Office you'll do fine. If you try to mix LO and MS you will run into occasional problems. That includes producing things in LO and trying to send them to someone who uses MS. Choose one or the other and stick with it. LO is cheaper, but MS is used by more people so it's more compatible.
