This shot made me stop and really digest what exactly was going on. As my eyes and mind came together on a conclusion this shot literally blew my mind! It's a great, out of the ordinary shot of a surfer and imo would win in a contest. I really like it!

The way the light was hitting the wave and the slashing surfer carving his turn and the tiny water droplets nearly everywhere made this image seem almost like an abstract. You can't plan for this to happen, you just have to be ready and a little luck is always good too. I know this image will not be pleasing for everyone, but I am curious what kind of a reaction it will get. Please click on the download button under the photo.

Intriguing and unique--definitely one of a kind. I have to admire the skill of the surfer as well as that of the photographer to capture an action shot such as this. Brent, to clarify, since I used some different descriptive words I will qualify further--I like the image!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder Brent. I would hang this on my wall Mate.
Outstanding.

ozdude, YOU are the kind of audience that I love! YOU are my kind of guy! YOU are a surfer too, right? I know you live in the land down under.
Thanks for your response to this image. I know it is NOT for everyone.

Love it, Love it, Love it. I knew who took it the second I saw it. It has your, to me anyway, famous style. No one can do surfer better than you. I think you could publish a book with your surfer shots. The best shot I could get of a surfer in Texas is one while my son rides the wave behind his ski boat.

Jim, thanks for your response to this image. Thanks also for the kind words about my famous style and making a book of my surfing images. I would like to do a book of surfing images, but don't want the financial commitment and hassle of putting it all together. If any of you UHH members want to go in with me on it, I'm open! Opportunity is knocking! lol
Now Jim, I want you to watch the surfing movie called "Step into Liquid" by Dana Brown. This movie is great for anyone even if you don't surf. In the movie it shows surfing in the Gulf of Mexico. The surfers surf the wake behind the tankers. It's awesome! They surf for miles and miles!

Yes asicit, it is unusual for sure. If you didn't know it was a surfer and wave, would you have known?!?!??!

Awesome.......d3200prime I'm so happy you responded to this image the way you did.......to stop and digest it. As with most "abstracts" the viewer needs to "digest" it. I'm also happy that you think it's great and could win a contest. The problem with winning a contest is that the judge or judges need to have the same open mind that you do about this one. Thanks d3200prime for your thoughts on this.

Looking at the water, I'm not sure I understand the "lacks detail" comment--it's amazing, luck or not. I do find the figure a bit disturbing, because I can't quite figure out the torso and the limbs without thinking there are too many...or they're in the wrong places.... So, I guess I can't stop gawking at the image, even though "enjoying" isn't exactly the word.

I agree with you cabunit.........I think the photo has all kinds of detail. Maybe the person that said that was thinking because the image is so dark? As far as the figure goes, he is obscured by the splashing water........and because you can't really tell the exact position of the surfer, it makes it kind of an abstract. To tell you the truth, I took the photo and I can't tell exactly how the surfer is positioned either. On abstract photos I like the idea of not knowing what the subject really is, then if the photographer tells you something like "its a surfer" or "it's a bowl of cherries" then the light bulb goes on and it all becomes much more clear. If the viewer has to struggle somewhat to figure it out and eventually does figure it out, then I am in 7th heaven! Mission accomplished!

I feel an image like this lets the viewer fill-in their own details about the rider and the water. Just my opinion. Keep on making us wonder and think!
