Will the Tamron 16-300 lens work or fit a EOS 5D Mii Canon body? Thanks

The Tamron 16-300 is an APS-C lens, meaning it is for a crop sensor camera. In some cases, mounting an EF-S lens to a Full Frame camera body can damage the mirror - you want EF lenses for a full frame camera.

Donald I don't have a 5D Mii but I am thinking of buying one and don't know much about the full frame cameras so I really don't know if it has a crop sensor mode. I will have to investigate that. Thanks

Looking at B&H's site, the Tamron 16-300 shows an EF mount, which means it may mount fine on a 5D MII, however, it is a crop sensor lens, so the 5D MII being full frame may well make use of a vignetted image, where only a portion of the image is captured on the sensor, it would appear heavily vignetted, unless you have a crop sensor mode in the camera, which basically crops out the viginetted area, turning the full frame into a crop sensor camera.

I have the Tamron 16-300 on my 80D, and it works fine, but the 80D IS a crop sensor camera.

You probably should look at the 28-300 Tamron for your 5D.

On B&H's site you will find answers to your question regarding the 5D. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1029404-REG/tamron_16_300mm_f_3_5_6_3_di_ii.html#!

Donald I just went to B&H and it has the info you said, thanks for your help. I have the 70-300 canon lens which works but not as good as the 28-300 lens for an all around lens. I have a good selection of lens for the 7d mii camera but as you can see not all of them will fit the full frame. Enough of them do so I have a good start that buying a 5D Mii for $750 isn't a bad buy. Thanks again.

Yes it absolutely WILL fit and fully function on the 5D. The only downside is that its a crop sensor lens so the image it projects is not wide enough to cover the full frame sensor and will vignette at the wide end of the zoom. Good news is it will cover the FF sensor at the longer end of the zoom.
And NO, it will NOT cause any damage to your camera regardless of what some will try to make you believe.

To add,

Several Canon EF-S lenses have the rear element protruding past the mount. If they are mounted on a FF that protrusion can interfere with the mirror. Tamron and Sigma lenses don't have the protrusion and thus will fit, abet with vignetting.

That protrusion is added to the EF mount SPECIFICALLY to prevent owners from mounting those lenses on FF bodies, the protrusion hits the mirror bumper preventing the lens mount from engaging. Only Canon does this, no other manufacturer of lenses cripples their crop sensor lenses in such a manner.

No. That is equivalent to a Canon ef-s lens.
