Depending on style of glasses, and angle of the sun, I have had sunlight which is directly overhead interfere with using the viewfinder. WHich

I buy a flip up screen protector for my LCD screen. I turn off the instant playback on my LCD to save battery and force me to depend on my experience than just pixel peeping on every shot. That's what the play button is for. Also I always get a good round rubber eye piece for my cameras.

I use a l-508 sekonic light meter with a 2deg spot this way you can meter right on the bird.
