I'd stick with the Canon OEM print cartridges for the duration of the warranty period, just in case. Any third party inks probably void the warranty (and I dunno if they have a way to detect what's been used in it).

After the warranty expires, well it might be worth trying some of the cheaper alternatives.

If I recall correctly, the Pro 100 comes with a partially filled (half full?) "starter" set of inks. That's pretty common practice with manufacturers, though it's kind of a rip off.

The ink tanks in the Pro 100 are fairly large and long lasting (compared to some others I've used). A set of them costs about $130, but they occasionally go on sale a little cheaper.
I'd stick with the Canon OEM print cartridges for ... (show quote)

Pro 100 carts are full size, or even slightly more for initial priming.

Warning for people who use Epson printers and use 3rd party ink. Epson just released a firmware update that PREVENTS the use of 3rd party cartridges. Do not run the firmware. The 3rd party cartridge people are scrambling to update their chips. I got this from a 3rd party cartridge company.

I know I will only be using Cannon ink. The last Cannon pro printer that I had failed (programming) after a short time using aftermarket inks. This may just be a fluke BUT ? That and I did not like my pictures with the aftermarket inks. Not judging just my opinion.
