OK. Following Blackest's suggestion, Bay Area photographer Lisa Kristine. Just combine her first and last name and put dot com after it!

The movie "SOLD" starring Gillian Anderson plays a character inspired by Lisa Kristine.

Yes. I came across her work around 10 years ago before she was so active in the human trafficking / slavery issues. I have the two DVD's about her, her work, and how she approaches it. It all demonstrates the power of good photography. These are extracts:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UubzcXSBbwI have two of her signed limited edition books, and three of her prints (one signed limited edition) hanging on the walls of my house. Recently the Turnbull Cellars winery in Napa valley had a huge exhibition of her work. Apart from making great wines, the owner is a collector and always has exhibits in the tasting room. A couple of years ago it was all original Ansel Adams prints. What better environment to see outstanding photography while tasting outstanding wine.
Thank you for starting this concept thread about 'Photographer of the day'. Much as equipment discussions are interesting, this could really elevate UHH to discussing what really matters in photography. We can't all aspire to the things that Lisa has achieved, but we can certainly learn.
I hope that others will pick up your baton and continue the photographer of the day theme, with pointers to a few examples and why they are significant.
