Hello out there!
My name is Sarah. I have always loved taking pictures, but recently I have decided that I would like to do more than just point and click. I currently only have a basic digital camera, Nikon coolpix s3100, That my wonderful boyfried got me bacause my last camera broke, but as soon as I start getting a little better, and can afford it, then I will upgrade!
I really dont know anything about proper photography. This is a going to be a major learning experience for me, so any pointers or tips that I can get would be amazing!
Can't wait to meet everyone!

Hi Sarah,
Welcome aboard. I would suggest the first, an quite possibly the most important of all, is to learn and understand the relationship between shutter speed and aperture. The higher the number for an aperture, eg f11, f16, f22, will give you the greatest depth of field , or in other words much more of the back ground will be in focus, the lower the number eg f1.8, f2, f4, f5.6, the shallower the depth of field, so if you are shooting say a portrait a wide aperture will throw the background out of focus concentrating the eye on the subject, whereas for a landscape shot you want as much in focus as you can. I would recommend a little reading on the subject, it's not too complicated, and you will soon have a handle on it.
However, be warned photography is very adictive and there is no known cure !!!!. Best wishes, Norman
Welcome to the forum, Sarah.
Like your signature - very creative!
I'm betting that since you're already on your second camera, you've probably figured out a lot about photography! You'll learn a lot here and with that information, you'll be able to pick out the right upgrade for you when that time comes.

Hi Sarah, Welcome to UHH, can learn alot here.
Thank you! This will be helpful as soon as I can figure out how to adjust the settings on my camera. I think I may need to find a different one to practice on. I appreciate your feedback! :D
