I am an amateur photographer and am debating between a Nikon AF-P, 70-300 mm and a Nikon AF S FX 28-300 mm lens. I own a Nikon D 750 camera.
Thank you for your input

I would go with the 28-300 and you are covered for a full range of shooting.

What lenses do you have currently and how much do you want to spend?

Recently bought a 16 to 300 to replace both the 18 to 55 and 55 to 200 on my Canon. Both were Kit lenses and I used the new lens on a River Cruise with no regrets. Like having the full range in one package. Also have a 50mm prime lens that I use often. Took a lot more equipment on the cruise than needed.

In that case the 28-300 would be mostly redundant. I would suggest the 70-300 so there was much less focal length overlap. Cheaper option as well.

The 28-300 mm is the faster of the two and would work well with the D750's low light capability.

Both of these are too slow for my taste. Look at the 80-200 f/2.8
Also, IMO, if you want to shoot at 300mm wait and buy a 300mm f/2.8 or f/4, till then just crop.

I think the 28-300, because it covers a lot of ground...

The 28-300mm is a great lens. It's always on my D750.

I use a D750 and the new Nikon AF-P 70-300 mm and I think it is a great lens. At the long end the lens is pretty comparable to my Nikon 300 mm f/4 prime lens which I use for birding. You could also look at the Kenko 1.4X PRO 300 Teleconverter DGX ($135) to increase the long end to 420 mm. The Nikon TCs do not work on this lens. I really don't see as much degradation of IQ as others say they see using the TC.

IQ at 300mm will be slightly better with the 70-300 - if that matters.

my friend and I both had the 70-300, couldn't get a sharp image at the long end area with either copy, the 28-300 I have is wonderful, I love it !!

The AF-P 70-300 will be sharper and focus more quietly and quickly and it costs less. OTOH the 28-300 provides better versatility. Which do you value more?

Since you have the 24-120 I wouldn't consider either lens. A better fit would be Tamron or Sigma 100-400.
