About the New Tax Bill. Those that live in the HIGH Tax Blue States i.e. NJ, CT, NY and CA everyone will see a Tax Hike

But, I who live in CA will see a 6.2% increase in $$$$$ with a Lower Tax Bill of about $400

Not everybody in a high tax state will lose money. However, people with good incomes and who own their own homes in those states are more likely to get the short end of the stick. You know... the middle class!

This is the non-photo part of this forum and lots of topics get discussed. It's easy for you--if you don't like the topic then just move on to another one but please don't try to control everyone.

Personally I don't have any significant taxable income so it will have no affect on me. But when the CBO says that apx 80% will see some relief who am I to argue even if I'm part of the 20%. Tell you what, sit back, enjoy your holiday and get back to me around, say March.

And don't forget that the real target is to hijack Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security funds to pay for the debit increase caused by the tax cuts. As a retiree, I am not looking forward to the results of the tax cut.

In answering a post about a used D7200 for $750 I was quick to say that the new one is only $799. However the price is now $999. Also the D750 instead of $1500 with the grip now is $1800 without the grip. The D810 is still $2799 but no free grip.

The good news is that I can postpone even thinking about a D750 for quite a while. Solves GAS!

I guess you heard that hijack part around the water cooler.
In my lifetime there have been 2 tax 'revisions' before this one. One under Kennedy and one under Reagan. In both of those earlier ones the nay sayers were positive it was going to further increase the dept because there would be less tax income to the treasury. In both of those cases the nay sayers were wrong. If we don't learn from history.............................

Those are not price increases per se. The prices you mentioned for those cameras were the sale prices that have been in effect for the last month and a half or so. They are the normal prices that those cameras were sold for before Nikon started offering their Black Friday sales back in November.

Holiday sales are over Rich. I replied to the OP to that fact... those were Nikons Black Friday sale prices that had been in effect since November.

Well, lsupremo. It's like this:
Lots of photography related stuff on the Hog. Go upstairs, where this might end up, if you want other (heated) topics.Go down the hall and read about the Sony A7 lll mirrorless. Or go next door to the photo gallery, it's mostly photography related. Or... start your own. That's always fun.LOL

Just FYI, the new tax law, passed in the dead of night with no meaningful debate, is 500 pages long. About half of the page volume is special little loopholes for favored industries and favored states. I HAVE to read the thing for my magazine, which covers a very capital-intensive field. I build the financial models upon which that industry -- broadband network deployment -- relies. I have finished reading the 300 pages or so that directly apply to all but the largest businesses, and that apply to individual families.

As a fiscal conservative and social liberal, it seems to be a lousy law -- makes the tax code even more complex, raises the deficit, increases the proportion of governmental costs that will be borne by individuals. We give some families a small break now, at a fearsome future cost to our kids and grandkids. We still discourage marriage by taxing married couples more than if they just lived together. The new tax code actually DISCOURAGES business investment -- the tax deductions for doing so are now smaller. Big businesses were already taxed well below 21% but smaller businesses that were never able to afford to buy a politician will now pay less. They can use that cushion to cut prices, pay workers more, buy back stock or buy out partners. But create new jobs with new investment? Doubt it.

Reagan inherited a national debt of $800 billion. The debt was $2.7 trillion when he left office, $5.4 trillion after four years of Bush I, about the same after 8 years of Bill Clinton, and $10 trillion after Bush II. Obama, who entered office facing worldwide economic collapse, added another $8 trillion, but his burn rate in his last term was less than that of Bush II.

In 1935, comedian Will Rodgers said the only difference between Republicans and Democrats was that the Dems tax-tax, spend-spend. The Republicans borrow-borrow, spend -spend. That was more than 80 years ago and nothing has changed.

At least my wife and I make enough money from our photography sideline (she mainly from event and street photography, I mainly from studio work and conference coverage) to deduct the cost of almost all of our equipment.

All that said, we're looking forward to a great new year. Hope you all are as well.

This the "Main Photography" section.
