I'm interested in any UHH members that have used the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 Di II non vc for nikon. What's your recommendations?

Its an excellent choice for an upgrade replacement for the 18-55mm kit lenses.

I have this lens on a canon 7D and would say it is a great upgrade from the kit lens. It is very sharp and probably use this lens the most of all. Buy it. You will be happy with it. Here is a picture of Yosemite National Park. Was taken with a 40D canon and the tamron lens.

Nice shots. I was shooting a Nikkor 16-35 f/4 and would have liked the Tamron’s 2.8 for dawn and dusk photos. I see you were in Fernandina Beach. I have similar shots of the hotel and beach. The Amelia is a nice little hotel. Fernandina Beach is a great location for photography and quite close to The Okefenokee Swamp and Cumberland Island National Seashore just a few miles away across the Georgia line for those looking for a nice place for a photography outing.

I have the Tamron 17-50mm with the VC, (Canon mount) rather than without. It is a very nice and really sharp lens! If not as clear as my Canon 70-300mm L, its extremely close. I do like the VC but the lens is great as long as you can hold it without shake. Definitely big upgrade from kit lens!

A few years ago, when I had my D90 (2010-2012), I bought that lens as an update to the 18-105 that came with the camera. I was not overly impressed. So much so that I traded it to Adorama for a Nikkor 17-55 f/2.8. I may have had a bad copy, but I was happy with the 17-55.

I've had on for years, it has been my most used lens on my Dx bodies. However, when I first got it it had back or front focus issues so I sent it to a service center and it came back spot on.

Hell of a price difference though. You should have sent it in for service first.

I can’t contest what you say, but the improvement was sufficient to make me forget about the money. 😊 I never regreted it.

Another choice is the Sigma f2.8 17-50 OS. I like mine on a D5300.

It is noticably better than Nikon’s 18-55. But heavier.
