My first dslr was nikon d200....I LOVED it but never shot in raw due to advice from a friend that said jpeg was just as good. I kept it on "P" and never learned manual shooting. Now I need a lighter weight camera...and since I'm rural...camera shops are in Houston and I didn't want to drive there. So I ordered a d5500 and it is very light weight even wiith my favorite lens. I like the touch screen and the tilt screen and even the scene modes! But I started shooting raw with this camera and added Lr to my PSE 14 editing. Wish I had always shot in raw now that I see the difference. I do mostly scenery and grandkids, not a pro at all but love taking photos. Guess what I'm saying is get the one with the features YOU want and you will use those features and maybe learn a little more!

Its always good to keep learning, keep it up and enjoy you new camera and best of luck with whatever you choose to shot with it, and enjoy playing with your new toy and software.

Well, the decision has been made. I am ordering a new Nikon DSLR today. I am reading the manual on my tablet as we speak, figuratively. Should be here Sunday. Just in time to go under the tree. A real tree.

So which one did you go with?....

Silly me, I forgot to say that, didn't I.

I picked the D7500 for a variety of reasons but overall, I believe the D7500 will do everything that I want in a camera. I'm hoping it will be easier to use in manual or semi-auto compared to my current D5200 and it will still be easy to use for anyone else.

I have the D7500 and am very pleased with it. It replaced my D5200 (which is now my back-up or secondary camera)... deja vu... My main lens is the Tamron 18-400 and together they work great. I'm sure you'll be happy with the camera...

Thanks for the comment. My youngest daughter will get the D5200.

I downloaded the Snapbridge app on my Note 8. I was looking at the reviews for it and lots of people seem to be complaining about Snapbridge. It's not critical for me, but I wonder how others have been doing with Snapbridge on the D7500 and a (non-iPhone) recent vintage android device.

I tried using Snapbridge when I first got the camera and it was somewhat sporadic. I usually copy my pics onto the computer and then use Picasa to load into my iPad/iPhone. That has worked for me so I really haven't had much of a need for Snapbridge. I might mess around with it some after the holidays...

I'm really not interested in downloading each picture I take to my Smartphone and that's not why I'm looking at Snapbridge. What is interesting to me is that the documentation says you can add text from your Smartphone to each picture taken on the D7500. I want to see how that works as it may solve one of my wishes. It would be fun to see if I can use it through my Gear S3: Talk to the gear, download it to the Note 8 and then send it to D7500 as I take a picture.

We shall see.

My interest in it would be while traveling I can download pics onto my iPad giving me a good, portable screen for viewing while on the road or generally away from home...

Understood and that makes sense. I always travel with a laptop and so I upload the pictures from the camera to the laptop and then to the cloud daily.

I also place the pictures on a USB stick and I can plug that stick to my tablet and look at the pictures there.

I understand Snapbridge connects directly to NikonImage and will upload pictures to that via WiFi. I'll have to look at that as well.

I just read so many negative comments about Snapbridge, I'll just see how I can incorporate it in my travel workflow.

The camera was delivered today; the family has decreed it goes under the tree until tomorrow morning.

My wife and I do that to each other every year.... Just tell them you need the camera to shoot the rest of Christmas and that you need to open that up first!!!

I have my D5200 for that. I will charge the battery for the D7500 fully before using it. I'm finishing the OM right now and have started in the book from Douglas Klostermann.

Merry Christmas.

This will be my last post on this thread. So far, I am pleased with the D7500 but did not have much time to play with it yesterday and back at work today. It is much heavier than my D5200, but I love the big screen in the back. I'll accumulate my impressions and may start a thread talking about the jump from the D5200 to the D7500. Thanks for all the great responses on this thread.
