from my D850. The files transfer and they appear as NEF files, but no thumbnails.

I've done all the updates and refuse to go to the Adobe monthly rip-off plan.

Any suggestions?

A D850 with a decent lens is in the $4,000 range and $10 a month is a "rip-off"?

According to this chart (https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html) the D850 RAW is supported by Lightroom 6.13. It was updated this morning to 6.14. It should work and last as long as your camera does. As already stated, the free DNG converter (latest version) will work with the software you have.

Anyone remember when a roll of film was $5 and we all had to use film?

I'm not big on subscription plans but you make a valid point.

You might as well get used to the monthly plans, I forecast that more and more companies will be moving that way, especially after seeing how successful Adobe’s plan works. I believe that Quicken has now gone to subscription with the Quicken 2018.
One positive is that your subscription plans will be improved and updated at no additional cost to you.
I was leery about the LRCC plan until I tried it out, I now fully support the concept.

Yes, unfortunately. I'll keep my 2014 version. On Amazon, it's $90 for twenty-seven months. I paid $60, and I've used it for over four years and will continue to use it. It does all I want, so there are no features that would attract me to sign up for constant updates. Imagine how much you could be paying every year for software, radio, and TV if you went ahead with subscription plans. It would be thousands of dollars vs nothing at all.

As you said, Adobe has shown businesses how much money they can get from us by charging us continually rather than just once. If they were considerate of their customers, they would offer both subscription and standalone, but their concern is making money, not serving the public. It's a shame.

Download Adobe's DNG converter (free) and convert your files to DNG files. No loss in the photos, just converting them to Adobe's format so they can be opened and worked on. I have done both ways and their is no difference at all.

If you want to reply to me, do it privately. The admin has me blocked me from emails because on October 20, yahoo put an email from here into the spam folder. Their answer to that is to have a tantrum and block you (when this happens) from receiving emails for 10 days; kinda like in kindergarten when you were sent to the corner). Only I am still being blocked and they will not fix it; instead they keep coming back and telling me to do stupid things that don't work or exist as they claim. Multiple emails to them has me still blocked over a month later. Is this not discrimination?

Is the block still up for you?

Can you open them at all, with anything on your computer? You may have to bite the bullet and go Ps CC or get the free DNG Converter. Or trade for a D810.

Doesn't the title say, "MAC?"

I wonder why people don't use the software that came with their cameras to open Raw files and if they don't want to work with DNG, convert to TIFF files to use with their PP software? (I'm asking rhetorically, though I am curious as I heard the Nikon software was pretty good).

I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with your older versions of PS and LR. But, I fail to see that the Adobe annual subscription is a rip off. I started with PSE version 2. I dutifully upgraded annually at about $70 per year. It seemed evertime I upgraded I had to reorganize my photos. I always wanted to try PS but could not justify the cost. Now I have both LR and PS for an additional $50 per year and don’t have to reorganize my collection when I get a new upgrade. I think it is a hell of a deal.
