Problem moving photos to Lightroom

I have LR 5.7, and after taking some time off from it, I’m having problems moving my images from Photos to LR--I’m running an iMac desktop. I can’t seem to get them to go into LR. My images automatically load into Photos from my SD cards, and always have. Now I can’t get them to move to LR.

Suggestions? Solutions?

What do you mean by "move" as that is not a term applicable to Lightroom where the action is "import".

Can't you go to the folder via the operating system and select all the image files and drag-n-drop them onto the LR desktop (in the Library module) and have the Import dialog start automatically? If the dialog doesn't start automatically, can you navigate from LR to the same folder (use <Import> button) and select all the images and Import?

What works for me is, I create a file folder on my desk top and give it a name, then I move the raw files from my SD card into that file folder. Then I put them into an external hard drive and import them into Lightroom from there. You don't need to use the external hard drive, but I do. I don't use photos at all. I use a MacBook Pro so it should work the same. Hopefully this helps.

LR question:
When you create a new catalog in LR does all of the editing & sorting information that has been done on your images show up in the new catalog?
I ask because if the answer is yes then the OP could simply create a new catalog. Wouldn't that work? Of course, if the answer is no ........

I can use a cable from my Fuji camera to my MacBook Pro or a memory card reader to import files into LR5.7. However LR5.7 won’t read Fuji RAW files directly, so an interim step is required.

I know--semantics.

Thanks, I’ll give that a try.

Thanks--my images are already in Photos.

From the camera onto your computer:
when you import your photos into Photos they are stored somewhere on your computer where you have told Photos to put them. When you import your photos into Lightroom they will be stored somewhere on your computer where you have told Lightroom to put them. Hopefully you will use the same location for both programs.

Once photos are on the computer:
Lightroom simply needs to know where to look for the photos. It does not need to "move" or "copy" anything. So if you already have your photos in, lets say, a folder called "My Photos" then add that folder into the Lightroom catalog by using the "+" sign on the folders section of the Library. Once you have added the folder, Lightroom will scan that folder and all sub folders and will simply "add" the photos where they sit into the catalog.

Once this folder is added to Lightroom:
and you add more photos outside of Lightroom, using Photos or some other program you can let Lightroom rescan this folder for any changes. Move the mouse over the folder, right click (or Mac equivalent) and choose "Synchronize Folder" and Lightroom will look for additions and deletions. Choose OK and Lightroom is again up to date.

This is where a lot of people get confused about Lightroom. Your photos do NOT go into Lightroom, you simply tell Lightroom where your photos are and it remembers that location, whether on your main hard drive, an external drive or a network location. If you move, rename or delete that location "outside" of Lightroom then it has no way of knowing where all the photos went. It is then up to you to tell Lightroom where you moved the photos.
