This tree is real Spago for Western Flickers and Waxwings at this time of the year.
I am guessing that this is some kind of Ficus but I am not sure...
Possibly a Black Cherry? Where was this image taken? Any better images of the leaves?
I don't know about the tree but I'm digging the cedar waxwing.
Well, may be this shot will help, sorry , I do not have picture of the whole tree (it is medium size) or better shot of leaves ...taken in So.California
I doubt that it's a Black Cherry then as they are not indigenous to Southern California. I was just in So. Ca in Sept, but did not see any trees like this. I was primarily in Carlsbad & Encinitas...
I have Black Cherry on my backyard - it has the berries now but it's leaves are much smaller (1/3), this tree in question has the leaves like Camphor tree...
You got cedar waxwings coming out the cazoo! I haven't seen one here yet. I need one of those trees.
Looks like you nailed it, lukevaliant !
Thank you!
If it's elderberry, watch out if you ever want to cut it down. You could be in violation of California law. Though federal law has taken the elderberry beetle off the endangered list it's still on the list for California. Therefor the elderberry is protected habitat for the elderberry beetle. You have no idea what it costs developers to deal with this bush in California. Huge projects are stopped in their tracks when these bushes are discovered. Sometimes an unfortunate fire may come along and destroy the bush. Then construction can begin. Sometimes huge fees have to paid out for building new habitat.
Thanks 10MPlayer,
Cool info! No worries, the tree is on the grounds of Sepulveda Wildlife preserve park.
Looks like a hackberry. Would be nice to see the bark. Has a white wood. The berries are about 90+% seed. Birds love the berries which are sweet
OK, tomorrow I will shot the whole tree and more details and post them ASAP...
If S Ca probably not hackberry. Not indigenous to Calif. is in central US.
