I THINK IT IS TIME TO END THIS TOPIC. If I get anything illuminating from Canon I will repost.

For now, I am writing it off as an unexplained anomaly.

Thank you all for your time and interest. I will not be responding further since the topic has been exhausted.

Here's a link to the movie that showed up on my CF card in the camera, without my creating it. The numbers are sequential and fall towards the end of the day's shooting. I didn't create this movie. Only the last image (the Manhattan Bridge at night from the top of WTC1) was taken by me.

Go figure.

OK, I have experienced an odd occurence using my camera that I can’t explain but know one of the wizards in here can.

A short time ago I took my son back to his apartment in the East Village. His cats had been spending time with me and we needed to get them back to their city life.

While there we visited the 9/11 Memorial and I shot some pictures with my Canon 7D Mark2. Here’s where it gets weird...

When I got home and downloaded the images I saw where two .mov files had been created. I’d only taken one short movie in the park of the waterfall/fountain memorials in the WTC1 & WTC2 footprints.

The second, unknown video, contained a collage of pictures and video clips...only a few of which were mine. Oddly disturbing....

As many of you know, this camera has the ability for geotagging but, to my knowledge, I have never specifically enabled that feature. If enabled, could it recognize the iconic features of NYC and create its own .mov file using a form of AI? So...

- is Big Brother watching?
- is my camera possessed?
- do I get out my tin foil hat?
- hang garlic or wear a cross?
- cover my camera or tape over my computer’s lens?

Inquiring minds want to know...
OK, I have experienced an odd occurence using my c... (show quote)

Don't forget the "tin foil" hats for pets and take care of those cats and any dogs. The "tin foil" hat site has a section for "tin foil" hat protection for dogs.

And remember this, just because your counselor is telling you you're paranoid, doesn't mean "they're" not out to get you!!!!!!!

That edited movie was NOT created in your camera, or any camera, but rather on a computer from clips joined together using video software. There are no in camera options to add a music overlay track and no options to add scene transitions, and there is no way it could have been transmitted to your camera. According to the EXIF data, assuming its correct, it was taken on 11/26/2017 with a Canon Ef-s 10-22 mm lens. Do you own such a lens? It was either already on the card or someone put it there.

EXACTLY MY POINT!
So how the f*ck did it get there?! Because I didn’t create it, but the last image is mine.
If I wasn’t crazy before, THIS is making me crazy!
And yes, I own such a lens.

Someone had access to that card, and I don't mean wirelessly. Somebody either took the card out of your camera and copied the video to it or copied it directly to the card in the camera through a USB connection. There is no other explanation. As to who did it I can't say. But somebody had access to your camera when you weren't looking. Either that, or the video was already on your PC and you only think you downloaded it. There really aren't too many choices.

I understand there are ways to recover data from reformatted cards. Canon would know, or you could Google it.

WiFi is not a 7D Mark II built in option. The camera does have GPS for geo-tagging purposes. If you want to use WiFi on the Canon 7D Mark II you need to purchase the Canon W-E1 Wi-Fi Adapter which fits in the SD card slot instead of an SD card. The second slot in the camera holds a CF card which is obviously then required in order to save pictures. I have one myself. Without this card WiFi is not possible on this camera. There was a firmware update a while ago intended to support the use of this card. But in the end, no card, no WiFi.

Well, I don't own a 7d2 and have never handled one but when I looked up the specs earlier, Digital Photography School was comparing the 7d2 with the 7d and Nikon d7000 and in each case it said that wifi was "optional" so I figured that just meant you could toggle it on and off in the menu but your explanation is clear and accepted. When it came time to upgrade to a 7d2 I jumped ship to Sony and just never got to know the 7d2 but this isn't a brand or model specific issue the OP is dealing with. It would be interesting to know if that card in the SD slot is a W-E1 slipped in at purchase time and was turned on by that firmware update. Still, it's pretty improbable that the .mov file was brought in via wifi. I guess since she's not following the thread any longer we won't know.

Did you format the card before and after doing the firmware update, and before your outing?

There is the possibility that you or someone picked up a memory card belonging to someone else. This could have happened months ago, and you just recently put it into the camera. No one is spying on you, it's just a fluke happenstance. Enjoy the New York picture and delete. You could look at the data in the image and see when and where they came from.

This is not raw footage its been edited with sophisticated software. I belong to a film makers group and with the edits in the video it probably should suggest an editing suite if not a commercial source of the video. hopefully with 87,000 members someone will recognise it :)

The main suggestion is its some projection art

e.g

Timeless Tales - Building Projection for LUMA Festival Binghamton by Maxin10sity

I think that was September in New York.

the only thing that comes to my mind (and i'm sure it CANNOT be the case btw!) is that years ago i read something about tourist attraction sites and some wifi-GPS enabled cameras (or smartphones?) using some kind of a silly app that tells them where exactly to look for famous landmarks and monuments etc ... a handy thing for tourists that are totally new to the area ... if i recall it right, it could also let the user know in which spots photography is or is not allowed by the local laws and things like that as well ... i may be only half-correct on these details though as i wasn't quite interested in it anyway and didn't read through it in full ... maybe if you search around using the right keywords you may find more info about such an app, if it does exist that is ...

besides, r u sure you formatted the storage memory card correctly? (has to be done inside the camera ONLY in order to work right or all kind of weird things could happen!)

did you buy the camera AND the storage media in debate used or new?

also, why not try Canon D7-specific forums? maybe other people shooting in the same area using the same or similar Canon camera model had their wifi-NFC stuff on and active and somehow their camera(s) coupled with yours and things went in the direction of Giza pyramids in Egypt while ET was trying to call home to talk to daddy Spielberg and things like that you know!? ;-)

Most Mets fans are D and most Yankee fans are R.
Just unscientific observations.
I'm sure there are studies somewhere to confirm this. :)

Very unscientific, very silly, and very wrong.

This thread is taking a nose dive right into Chit-Chat - or maybe the Attic. Irresponsible, stupid and puerile comments like this are the rantings of a sick person.
