WHO CARES, IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE PERSON BEHIND THE LENS AND ALWAYS WILL. PERIOD.

I don’t 100% agree with this yes it’s the person behind the camera but a good camera helps and even an amateur can grab nice images

When the Nikon D850 first came out, Nikon users celebrated. When DxOMark gave it a score of 100, Nikon users threw what looked to me, a Pentax user, like an unseemly street party. When a D850 user started a thread yesterday to complain about its noise at higher ISO values, I went back to DxOMark and was surprised to note that the Sony a7Riii was rated over a week ago, and also has a total score of 100, worse in some areas than the D850, but much better in noise. I missed their celebration here.

(1) Did I just plain miss it. If so, I'd be appreciative if someone could provide a link to it.

(2) Are Sony users just more modest

(3) I know there are Sony users here, so no one to celebrate cannot be the answer.

The Sony, to my eyes, has better balanced scores. The Nikon was originally sold here as an all-around camera, but it now ranks 25th in the DxoMark's "sports" score, which measures high ISO performance, while the Sony is no lower than 5th in any category.

No you did,t miss anything. Sony just threw cold water on the D850 street party and they, the Nikon fan boys, are livid. Especially with the superior noise rating Sony received.

DxOMark scores should not be taken too seriously.

Nikon fan boys live and die by the DxOMark scores, nothing else they can do.

I'm very happy with my Sony a6000. I don't have the budget for $1000 lenses and $2000 cameras, nor the expertise to buy used items with confidence yet. And I'd rather spend money on travel. That said, I wish there were more topics more relevant to Sony users here, but I have learned a lot anyway. I understand many UHH folks are film Canon/Nikon users from way back and switching to Sony mirrorless didn't make as much sense wgen they went digital. I'm just getting into photography after a 30-year hiatus, so going mirrorless was an easier decision. And the a6000 was a great choice.

While modesty could be said to carry its own rewards, I, as a Sony owner am delighted that you noticed. It gives the other side of my personality (Nikon owner, also) a great deal of pleasure to be recognized.

While heavily invested in Nikon Cameras, Lenses and other gear; I'm moving towards Sony increasingly. I started with a NEX 6, then an A6000 and then an A6300; and still have all 3. After watching countless YouTube Video's and exploring other data I purchased an A7II to see if how I liked that format. I have added lenses and now preordered an A7RIII. I'll be keeping most of my Nikon stuff but cancelled my D850 preorder.

All cameras sold to day are capable of producing fine photos. Many tests have shown that it is difficult, even for professional photographers, to distinguish which camera made which image of the same subject. The differences between the Sony A7Riii and the Nikon D850 in terms of image quality are insignificant. Buyers will be better served by selecting a camera system based on other factors such as cost, weight, control accessibility, moisture resistance, and lens availability where those factors are relevant to the type of photography they want to pursue.

About a year ago I sold all my Canon cameras and lenses and switched to Sony because I simply can no longer haul all that heavy equipment around. I now own 2 of their cameras, the 6300 and the a7Rii as well as several Sony lenses. Love them both. Only downside right now is the lack of a good lens lineup.

Sony has the full frame lens lineup covered except for telephotos longer than 400mm. Their GM lenses are superior to equivalent lenses from Nikon or Canon. Unfortunately their GM lenses are expensive and they don't have a good lens lineup for the A6300 and other A6xxx cameras.
