I have always done my photo editing and organizing on Apple's iPhoto/Photos with an occasional extra tweak in Photoshop Elements. That has worked well for me, but I'd like to learn more about Elements as well as other editing software. I know there is lots of training available online, but I much prefer a classroom setting where I can ask questions on the fly and try the techniques being discussed.
Can anyone recommend a good course or seminar in the Asheville area? I live in Brevard, NC.
Thanks.

Check your local community college as well as your city community center and library. You will be surprised by what these last two can offer, usually free of charge or really cheap.
also check your art centers--- I teach photography and post processing at Phoenix center for the arts.... and I imagine other art centers offer inexpensive classes too.

Rick Peterson runs this site, and has been a tremendous help to me over the years, getting into Elements.

My Reno, NV Art Museum and their E.L. Cord Foundation endowed classes are a great local source, too. And, my photographic education has been greatly enhanced by workshops carefully chosen to build on the areas I wanted to improve. They're relatively expensive but intense and fun.

The University of Utube is the best out there.

I looked online for photo courses at our local CC. I found one and signed up, but it was online only. As it turned out, it was a nationwide course populated by people who signed up through their local colleges. We were able to ask questions and get answers online, but it was nothing like a small classroom setting.
The local college does offer Adult Ed or Continuing Ed courses in all sorts of things, but the prices have gotten so high that you would have to think twice about attending. If enough people don't sign up, the course is cancelled.
I use Lynda.com, which has many different courses. Monthly or annual fee. I have found it worth the cost.

I don't know about courses but you have picked one of the most beautiful places to live. Great place for scenic photos, especially waterfalls! If my wife would agree I'd be your neighbor in a minute!
I have learned more from Anthony Morganti's Youtube instructions than from any course I have taken. He does answer questions.

I recently purchased a training series which includes 3 DVDs from the How To Gurus “Photoshop Elements 15 Tutorial Training”. You can find the How To Gurus on YouTube. I wanted something structured. Haven’t started it yet.

A brief web search found the Land of Waterfalls Camera Club in Brevard, NC. See
http://www.lowccnc.com/ for details. Then there is the Camera Club of Brevard at
http://ccbrevard.org/ I'd try those folks to see what they may offer. I'd also investigate what courses might be available in the Art Dept of Brevard College (brevard.edu). They do offer a fine arts degree with a concentration in photography. That's got to include at least one course in post-processing that you might attend. The same might be true for UNC-Asheville, but that's a fair jaunt from Brevard.
Cheers,
Dick
