Harold, welcome to the Hog!
Yes, the higher mp cameras do tend to produce noise in bad light, but every camera does.
The companies equip them with pretty powerful noise suppression software and it usually does a pretty good job.
Make sure yours is enabled at a high enough level to do a decent job.
Otherwise the ONLY solution is faster lenses or better light(or bigger sensor $$$), and better light is not always an option, nor is a bigger sensor !!!
SS

Thanks for the tip. I will enable the NR which I have not used, in the past. Cheers!

I definitely would and then warn my friends from not making the same mistake. Right now, I'm fifty fifty.

Yes, I saw this earlier in the day, which prompted me to create this topic.

Any regrets for you?

I do a lot of looking on ebay, and there have been quite a few sales of used D850s at above list price. Many people manage to get a scarce product and sell it at higher prices. Theater tickets are a good example. There are a lot of people to whom money is simply a way to get what they want, and price doesn't matter.

In the 60s and 70s, we went to dozens of Broadway plays. I always got seats front row center, within the first ten rows. Prices were never more than $25. Now, they're $100 and up. Look at recent sales of Hamilton tickets on ebay.

Yeah but Jerry, that’s actually a very good deal. That 1970 dollar is the equivalent of $16.37 today.

No doubt it was over hyped, but all things considered its the best all around camera Nikon has released. I like mine very much although its not perfect.

In contrast Sony's A7R III was released relatively quietly and is just as good if not better, especially for noise. If I wasn't heavily invested in Nikon gear I would have purchased it.

They are not "for sale" because of regret.

And you would make this universal claim based on what evidence?

Well the critical tests have almost consistently maintained that the D750 is generally less prone to noise at higher ISOs than the D850. Those with regrets will likely not mention it.

No regrets, I did not buy the D850 for high ISO, I bought it for the high dynamic range and some other features. My D4 yields less noise at higher ISO than any of my other cameras including the D810. I don't own the D750, but I hear that it is the king of low noise at higher ISO settings.

Get a Fuji XT series instead. Lighter, great lenses, amazing low light images, many support groups. Many YouTube instructional videos and pounds lighter and smaller (and a whole lot cheaper.)

Welcome to UHH. I am glad you like your Fuji and hope you get some award winners out of it, however on this particular thread I believe anyone who considers or has Nikon high end cameras (and probably lenses to match) would not consider a Fuji.

Well as you know Bruce, many posters have a mental block when it comes to staying on topic.
