Have you, yet - gathered up all your 35mm slides and digitized them, yet? ... If so, what process did you use?

And what did everyone do with the slides and negatives after scanning them? Just throw them away?

No, this is a task I have yet to complete.
Still wading through digitising 8,000 negatives.
Not even up to the first thousand yet.

What happens after you copy them, LF ... go into PP and then hit reverse, or what?

I purchased a slide scanner years ago, scanned them all with a 2x enlargement factor.
Now I have to find my negatives and scan them, as well as old photos - Winter project...

How many can you do at once, with a slide scanner, Bill?

I use gimp to carefully inspect each image at the 200% level, and fix any remaining issues {scratches, fungus spots, etc, etc}

Slides went back into the trays, negatives into plastic sleeves in binders. I won't toss them, just in case. They already came in handy when I had a hard drive crash a few months ago. I didn't realize until much later that some folders were lost, and I had already wiped out the old backups. I was able to identify the missing pictures in Lightroom, and re-scan them.

Just used a tool used to hold models while painting them, except I used it to hold the slide, and photographed the slides against a white background that was lit by sunlight.

Two examples:

Not bad, Richard ... that top one, of the motorcyclist ... has a painted look ... how'd you get that? ... PP?

I purchased three different scanners over time, an Epson, a Plustek, and a refurbished Nikon. The Nikon turned out to be the best, and over the past eight years I've methodically scanned most of my slides and few negatives.

How'd the negatives turn out, RE?

What do you do after ... reverse them in PP?

You have a lotta fungus spots on your slides, RE? ... Are you storing them in a damp basement, or what?

There is a tray that holds 4 slides (another for negatives), save one, slide tray, save it, slide tray.
I didn't have thousands to do, only a few hundred.
My slide scanner is an oldie, over 5 years I'd guess.
Many are simply a camera in a box set at a pre-focused distance to the slide/negative.

Scanner automatically does that. It also allows me to adjust curve, colors, etc.

Some of them are fifty years old. The few spots are small, but noticeable.

Good question ... probably, I'll just return them to the slide boxes for continued safe storage ... haven't even started, yet ...

Negatives ... not even sure about those, as yet ....

Most of mine are 120/220 ....

Still, a tedious process, huh, Bill?

I should be so lucky ... I've only been in this house 45 ... anything before that's long gone, by now ...

Wait ... I think I have a few of those notebook folders, with negs in from the 70-72 period .... I'll check ...
