Taken with a Nikon 1 V3 and 70-300mm lens, what is wrong with that.

Thinner body = less weight and bulk.

With a shorter flange-to-sensor distance, better lenses --- especially wide angle lenses --- can be developed.

Newer lens designs often perform better than the Nikkor glass in my bag from the 1960s, '70s, '80s...

I hope they have the guts to orphan their previously sold lenses and take the better path. But they may well give the market what it wants. It's the easy way out.

I do as well. If they choose a compromise, I won’t bother...just continue gravitating toward one of the better options.

Just curious...this thread dates back to 2014...has Nikon released this pro mirrorless system yet?

Internet RUMOR has this happening sometime in 2018. Personally, I am really excited about this, especially if I can use my existing lenses. We'll see! Happy Thanksgiving to ALL!

That’s good, cause if Nikon owners have been holding their breath since 2014, that’d be quite impressive.

Not so much holding my breath Clint, just hoping. I would LOVE to add a mirrorless, read "light", body to my gear bag!

I have. Actually my Nikons are spending more time on the shelf as I go out with my Fuji.

I hear you. I'm impressed with Fuji's lineup, but I expect that it will be quite some time before mirrorless is able to deliver a camera that is a good as a D5. When that happens, I'll go completely mirrorless!

Never had a D5, or any of the really high end cameras. I’ve had to switch out of necessity, in Order to stay in the game. Ive taken to the less is more philosophy....

Of course not, but it is fun to dream and speculate.

Yep, Nikon are way behind on this, and it must be compatible for 'F' mount else there'll be little sells.

Yet the primitive "F" mount is what holds them back and why they nearly instantly lost the working pro market in so many fields from Nat Geo to newspapers/magazines and finally sports.

Hmmmmmm. I personally know many pros who either use Nikon gear or wish they could (those whose employers provide the gear). IDK, the "F" mount works just fine for me and I wasn't left with a pile of useless, worthless lenses. Please, feel free to use whatever gear you choose just as I do. It's just not necessary to trash another brand. I have every expectation that when/if Nikon releases a line of mirrorless, they will be worth the wait. At least I hope that thought comes true! Best of luck.

It is not trashing it. Just a matter of fact that cannot be refuted. It was primitive and that caused problems and they have not yet recovered.
