I use a firearm at least every other day. What is tired is your worn out song and dance about transportation, horse and buggy, yadda, yadda, yadda. The only false analogy is yours!
FYI, one is a RIGHT and the other is a PRIVILEGE! Look them up if you're not sure which is which!

Again, Ken, do you use your firearm "at least every other day" by choice or out of necessity? Just asking.

Donna, I was visiting a friend, who lives a bit north of the Phoenix area. We were having coffee around mid-morning and there was a knock at the back door. The only thing that was interesting was the knock sounded like someone kicking the door, not knocking on it. My friend gets up from the table and comments it's probably the deer. I look out the window and sure enough. There's a deer standing just off the back porch. My friend walks outside. The deer stands there and watches. He takes the hose and fills up a bucket near the back porch. He comes back in the house and the deer goes over to the bucket and get a drink of water. Then calmly walks away.

He doesn't feed the animals, as he doesn't want them to become dependent. But, he does provide water. There's plenty of it around, but one deer likes water in the bucket. Pretty incredible, but fun to watch. Especially, that the deer would knock on the door if the bucket was empty. And, as you mentioned, the deer know the neighborhood is safe. So, they tend to hang out not too far away.

Donna, I was visiting a friend, who lives a bit no... (show quote)

Your friend is a good person, around here, the deer trust us, like I said, it's only the out-of-staters that have to be watched. They think because they can't see a house, that none are around (it's heavily wooded). They (the deer, not the out-of-staters) eat the apples down in the orchard and run thru the corn across the lane. They're scared of my little Westie (almost 20 lbs) tho! :)

Growing up in Virginia near Richmond IIRC deer hunting was permitted only with shotguns. Such a stricture might well have prevented the tragedy we've just heard of, pistol hunting a "deer" after sundown.

That has no bearing on the subject. You don't have a car, call a friend. No friends? Sucks to be you. As you pointed out, even the Amish ride a horse and buggy. So your transportation crap is just that. Crap!

One only has to be dependent on a firearm one time. It's not how many times, it's being prepared for that one time, and praying that that one time never happens.

Bob, that is a reasonable justification for owning a firearm. I'm considering buying a riot gun against the possible need. I am disturbed, however, at the many folks who seem to feel that gun ownership is a necessity to establish one as a "True American," and that any questioning of the Second Amendment is evidence of possible treason. We have millions of firearms in the US, and far too many of them are in the hands of people who shouldn't own a cap gun.

The second amendment grants owning a gun legal. It doesn't grant permission to use it unlawfully or unwisely.

I agree with you on sending him to prison for a considerably long time.

Could there be more to the story? My father-in-law once told me about a young man who was in the woods during deer season. He was sitting next to a tree. Like many young men in those days he wore a white t-shirt under his shirt that, unfortunately, looked like a white-tail, and he was shot dead.

It's been years since I've done any shooting, but it seems to me that 200 yds. is a Long distance, especially with a pistol. Did it have a scope? Was he using some kind of rest to steady it? Was he using special ammo to be able to penetrate at that distance? I think there are a number of questions that still need to be asked and answered.

There ARE revolvers powerful enough to take deer with with scopes now and have been for a couple of years. No special ammo, just high caliber/ power rounds. Not recommended for you little guys to shoot.
