Well actually I happened by and took some pictures. These guys were doing the work. :-) This is the first time I've been up close and personal at railroad work.

Great series of shots. I felt like I was right there with you documenting the work process. I need a lunch break!

Great shots. I knew a two man team who did that backbreaking work. Their job was to inspect and maintenance. They had to work in the summertime humid heat, wearing only strapped safari hats. All day long. You must be physically fit for that job.

Good shots - - and I'm pretty sure you must have let them know that
you were taking the pictures for you and not their boss.
I have watched that type of work being done a couple of times, but
it has been a pretty long time ago when I lived close to the railroad
tracks crisscrossing through the small city of Momence, IL.

Thanks for looking. Actually I'm an IT guy myself and was working on a project about 100 feet away. At one point I had to step back and let some electricians do their part so I was able to grab my camera and get some shots. :-)

Nice shots. Very minimal equipment being used. We had a big multi year railroad upgrade program that just completed a few months ago in the Charlotte area. Lots of interesting things to see and shoot. Not a lot of new track being built in the US these days.

Best,
Todd Ferguson

Actually I didn't talk with them, I was working on another project about a 100 feet away and just took and opportunity to snap some shots. It was a little chilly that morning and folks just wanted to get the work done, they weren't paying much attention to what was going on around them. :-)

Thanks for looking. Korea is a curious place these days. 20 years ago the would not have had the tractor there, all work would have been done by hand. Lately now some projects have minimal machinery, some still have non and others have too much. Some large construction projects here have wash racks that the dump trucks have to drive over every time they leave the project to keep from tracking dirt onto the paved roads. I should post some shots of some of that stuff. :-)

Nice shots. Imagine what it was like doing that work in the 1800s.

Yea when we consider the thousands of miles of railroad that was laid across the US mountains and deserts in those days without machines it is mind boggling. :-) Thanks for looking.
