But your first few lines exactly describe the Pentax KP even though you claim no knowledge of it, and I was pointing that out. Why should the OP switch brands whey Pentax already has a camera exactly matching what is wanted??

You are right that if the OP is set on full frame, it makes no sense to go Canon or Nikon. But the OP has said that he travels. Burkphoto, cdouthitt, myself, and some others know that a 4/3rds will be lighter, smaller, and usually travels easier than FF. We just want him to be aware that this could be the time to switch formats. There is nothing wrong about Pentax and a lot that is right (splashproof/weatherproof is truely better for the real world; Pentax beats both Canon and Nikon at this). The OP deserves to make an intelligent decision and seeing his options "laid out on the table" will preventing him from feeling he may have made a wrong decision. Nothing wrong with looking at "all the cards".

So true. I was a Nikon head for so long that when Canon's dSLRs were advancing faster than Nikon's in the early 2000s, it took me the threat of being sidelined at work to get me to look at them. My coworkers were right. The early mid-range EOS 20D was a much better fit for what we needed to do (school portraiture) than the Nikon D100, or D70. We bought well over 420 Canons in the next several years. They integrated perfectly with our workflow. At that time, Nikons did not.

That taught me a couple of lessons: First, there are many good options in the market. Second, things are not what they may seem.

In your price range already mentioned is the Olympus OM-D M5 and I third that motion. I recently got an OM-D M10 II and love it is lightweight
with easy to use features. Go look at the M-5 and M-10 before you finalize your decision.

Check out Olympus OMD mirrorless line of cameras and lenses the bodys are starting to come down in price. The pro lenses are weather proof but still pricey.

If you leave the files attached, yes. If you take away the file data, and there is no reflection or identifying camera quirk, I seriously doubt it. If you shot something in extremely low light, some may be able to determine the format given the ISO (even that can be questionable these days).

I have spent hours doing research based on the information you all shared. I am shocked where my new knowledge has taken me! I am strongly considering the Sony Cyber-shot RX10 IV. It seems to have everything I need and I still have room to grow. I can’t help but feel I am going backwards from a DSLR but that might just be a mind set. Before I make the jump any additional pros or cons for making this decision?
