US trip:- 9 hours down the Mississippi.
After a week in New Orleans, we took a 5 day Carnival Triumph cruise to Mexico. Cruising slowly down the Mississippi was wonderful. Just the thought of being there was wonderful for us.
The boat left at 4pm, so we had plenty of light to watch the river before dark. Took around 9 hours though, till we got to the gulf.
Lots of excitement onboard!
"We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin...down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico". (Not that they played that onboard).

Jude,
From where you left the dock in New Orleans you were about 75 miles to the head of passes. S.W. Pass (main ship channel) is 20 miles long. So from the time you left the dock until you hit the Gulf of Mexico you traveled about 95 miles.
Hope you had a great visit to New Orleans and a great cruise!!
