Ask about a Sigma or Tamron. They respond with Nikon. Asked about which UV filters are best. They respond with a lecture about not using filters. What is wrong with the comprehension of many posters on this site? Why is it that they feel like telling a poster what question to ask? This is pervasive on this site. I am only interested in direct and relevant answers if you choose to respond at all. Please avoid paternalistic replies,“leave if you don’t like it” or other idiotic responses.

I agree but there would be very few answers as you see in such a thread there are few answers directly to the question.
We are dealing with a group discussion and people in general feel that their advice is the best advice. Sometimes people feel like directing someone down a different path is the best advice. While I do not necessarily agree with this train of thought, there is nothing we can do to stop it. When we post a question or idea to the mass, we have to expect misdirection and weed out the responses we do not agree with and focus on what helps us. You of all people should understand this as you often get angry or cynical when you disagree with a post. It is human nature and when you invite more than one person into a discussion, you will get more than one opinion as to what is the best response.
I think the sky is blue sometimes, but at other times it might be grey. Example of an answer to your question. You are correct and it is most annoying.
They want to promote their own agendas.
The poster is absolutely correct. If the question is specific, the answers should be too. I would rather see fewer answers that are all relevant to my question. I'm sure we all have seen something like a question about a Nikon camera option and answers like "My Canon doesn't have that option". That's the kind of response that is annoying. Thank you for the post.
You have to winnow the chaff to get the grain, that's all.
I agree but on the flip side many posters ask a question and then never return to the post to follow up as to if their issue was fixed

That's a different issue. I think the OP should give some sort of closure to a thread, even if it's a simple "Thank you".

If someone asks "Is this the road to Chicago?" and you felt Chicago is a dangerous place these days, wouldn't you want to warn him/her of that??
The problem is the corporations have stock answers and don't answer you question they plug in a stock answer that is close it could even be done bay a computer that picks up key words. Welcome to the computer age

No I would answer whether or not the road is to Chicago. I will not say anything about Chicago. In fact in real life if I asked someone on the road that question and they warn me about Chicago I would take that as an insult.
Sorry, Jim Bob. While I might agree with you, philosophically, this is a public discussion website. You have to take the good with the bad.

Sometimes a general discussion related to the OPs question provides an answer - often that general discussion starts because no-one knows the answer. If an answer is not forthcoming the OP might have been pointed in a new direction to research his/her problem. Once that stage has been reached, what possible harm is there in continuing the conversation, which may have generated further interesting topics?

I think Jim Bob because this forum serves many purposes. We learn and grow but it serves in a relationship way also. Many are retired and just enjoy relating to others here. Some can't get out as they use to. HH is a way to keep the brain active and to push loneliness away. And this is good for all of us. There is much talent to be shared and good friends to be found. A more direct, concise answer can be found by goggling but here a conversation can be had with a friend. So I suppose choose how you prefer to get answers to questions. Understand what you are saying but hey, in this world as it is, does it really matter.
