I posted a couple weeks back about hockey photos and got some great input. I have been too busy to adjust any settings or edit any photos. I took a few the other night purely on the Sports setting. I am adding two of them here. I dont know what to do or what to adjust as when I do it seems to turn the picture into something that looks fake. I would like some suggestions, please know that I am NOT a photographer... Just a proud Dad! But want the best I can do with what I have, Sony@6000 with Sony Lens 24-240 SEL
1st Picture: ISO3200 : 240mm : f / 6.3 : 1/320
2nd Picture: ISO3200 : 69mm : f 5.6 : 1/250
Post in the for your consideration.... section
The wording around here is confusing at first. The Photography Discussion section is to discuss "photography", but that doesn't include "photographs". Sounds crazy.
If you click on home at the top of the screen and click on 'All Sections' you will see an overly long list of sections. There are a few that are designed to discuss and get help with individual photographs. "For your consideration" mentioned above should provide you what you are looking for.

ooops! Sorry about that. I will change where this is...
It’s fine here. Both are too dark.
Also level the first one.
I am very new to digital photography and still trying to use my new Nikon D3400.
In trying to analyze your first photo, I copied it to my photo editing program (Corel Paintshop Pro 2018) and "edited" your picture to see if I could improve it.
This process involved improving the light, color, contrast and sharpness. In my opinion, the resulting photo is usable, but less than perfect because of some out of focus conditions.
I am not knowledgeable enough to translate those changes into a definition of what you need to do in your camera to fully fix the problems. Hopefully this will help you, or some of the great UHH folks can interpret my fixes into "Camera" language.
I realize that you are new to Photography, but your version is not an improvement looking at my iPhone screen. Looks HDRish. But keep trying.

Just increasing exposure would help a lot - in the software, I mean. Brighten them up a bit. Shooting in raw (ARW) will allow more leeway in processing.
What is the maximum lens opening of your lens. You need more exposure and opening the lens more will give you more light with the advantage of smaller depth of field to make your subject stand out.
