Reed Art and Imaging in the Denver area does outstanding, professional quality work and has excellent customer service. Not one of the better known companies but I believe they are quite popular with professionals.

I'm soliciting advice from those who have used professional photo printing services. For the first time, I have actually been asked to exhibit my photos and I want the most professional appearance of them possible, without breaking the bank.

I did some preliminary printing using a color laser printer in my office. It was from these that the invitation was generated. I know using stock printer paper is not a good idea, so I can only believe using quality paper will be better. So, as an experiment, I had several shots printed at my local Walgreen's. Sure enough, the paper improved the overall image quality, but I'm thinking my photos will be hanging on a wall, so they should have good paper, a matte, and a frame.

I can probably manage the framing, but the chief item is the print itself. I've looked at Bay Photo Labs, Simply Color Labs, CG Pro Prints, and even Costco (yes, I know I'm all over the map)!

So what do you -- the pros who actually show and sell your prints -- use? Any tips (like don't let Costco "autocorrect")?

I use SmugMug to sell my photos. They allow you to choose from several labs for prints and merchandise at the Pro level. I chose WHCC for critical work. They are more expensive but the prints are great. I’ve also used bay photo and EZ Prints when price is an issue. They are good for the price.

I use White House Custom Color and Bay Photo. Both do an excellent job and offer extraordinary customer service. When you open an account with WHCC, they allow you to send 5 files to print as 8 x 10s for free to demonstrate their work and test calibration.

I also have used Adoramapix but was disappointed in the quality. I ordered an album as a gift and it arrived with a glue-y mess on the inside endpapers. They did replace the book with a clean one but I had to present the damaged one the day of the party, which was a little awkward.

Was it a metal print, by chance?

There printed on high grade aluminum 1/8 of an inch to a quarter of an inch thick I really like it especially if you like eye-popping glossy color images

I am not anything close to a pro, but you might get some feedback from pros who use Nations Photo Lab and / or Mpix. I use both and have been very pleased!

Second thumbs up for Mpix. Just ordered $700 of framed prints for holiday gifts. Excellent work and customer service.

Oh I know, was just wondering if someone else had the same issues with MpixPro's metal prints that I have.

Not to start another subject but make sure your monitor is calibrated. I use Adoramapix very happy with them. Had some color issues with them years ago but once their tech recco me to calibrate I've had no issues. Get some 5x7's of the same picture but on different papers to see how each type looks with your work. Also try to always order the minimum for the free shipping. hope this helps you.

Inconsistency. Their metal department switched printers in 2017, and the results were terrible. Files that printed fine previously were now washed out, too blue/cyan, etc. They told me they could not resolve these issues and I was just going to have to deal with it.

Here are some examples. The last one is a paper print (ok) on top of a metal print (washed out). Same file, same order. Even in these cell phone snaps you can see the obvious problems.

They told me they could not resolve these issues and I was just going to have to deal with it. I dealt with it by sending all my metal business to Bay Photo!

I know of others that use Mpix and order metals and they love them! Thanks

Others must not be as particular as me.
