A phone camera lol....I'm currently looking at purchasing a camera hopefully one that's not too expensive

Ok. Even shooting with a phone camera can yield some stunning results. Does your phone camera have manual settings in it? Also, let us know your age. Learning methods tend to fluctuate between different age groups.

It's not really complicated, Get a few books on digital cameras. Good luck with your next camera.
The best camera for you is the one you have with you at the moment. Took some of my favorite shots with my phone. Also got some good stuff on a trip to Spain with a Kodak point and shoot I bought at the last minute when I realized I had left nycamerabag at home. (OK, laugh, but don't try to tell me I'm the only one who has done this.)

There are loads of great tutorials on YouTube. The one that i always loved was by DigitalRevTV. Those guys not only made tutorials but also were very entertaining.

Start slowly using Auto. Work on good composition of interesting scenes. Look at all sides of the image before you click the shutter. Shoot the same scene from different angles and distances.
