Thank you for sharing this. A lot of singers have sung this song but they can't come close to Kate. I still get goose bumps when I here it. Thanks from this old Air Force Vet.

Every time I watch the video I get a chuckle when I see Ronald Reagan reading Variety in the last vignette.
Kate Smith both owned and "pwned" that song. "Owned" because Irving Berlin actually gave it to her; "pwned" because nobody--NOBODY--ever sang it like she did! She believed it with her heart and soul and that feeling carried through her presentation. I don't get chills when I hear her sing it--I actually cry, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I understand that she assigned all the royalties from the song to go to the Boy Scouts of America.
