Right! That's a considerable amount of work to go through for less than nothing. All the responses so have have been surprised reactions, but no one has told him that it's a stupid idea.

Along the same lines, how about changing coolant? You could drain it out of one car and put it into another. You could also strain your old oil through a stocking and re-use it. Run the oil filter through the dishwasher, and it would be good as new.

You may be onto something, Jerry. I dare say what, though.

Hmmm, the old GM canister oil filters, AC PF 141, could hold a roll of toilet paper to act as a filter supposedly, but never tried it

As someone who had a past life as an auto mechanic - stupid idea - makes no difference, unless one rotor was badly worn, in which case it would not take very long to ruin the good set of pads you just swapped in. And of course the bad pads you swapped to the other side would probably make stopping dangerous because of limited rotor contact.

Did Al Gore & Bill Nye recommend this by any chance?

Sounds like a Bill Nye thing to me, but if Al hadn't invented the internet, he couldn't have posted such an idiotic idea!

I just read on a car forum that a guy "flipped" his brake pads right and left to even out the wear. I don't know if he mean swapping inner and outer pads or left and right sides of the car. This seems like a really bad idea. The pads seat themselves to the surface of the disc, so moving them to a new location won't give total contact for quite a few miles.

Have any of you ever heard of this?

Today you're not supposed to swap tires side to side, I wouldn't consider doing that with brake pads. You are 100% correct that pads do seat to the surface so moving them just makes no sense unless you like not stopping and pulsation.

If one pad is wearing more than the other on the same caliper, it makes me suspicion that the pads were not installed correctly. The cause could be that the pins were not properly lubricated when the pads were initially installed. One pad must not be releasing when the brakes are not applied. Good Brakes and proper installation is something that should not be guess work.

Really a waste of time!!!!!if your pads are not wearing reasonably even ( i have never seen pads wear truly even) you have a caliper problem i.e piston sticking or caliper hanging on the support

We used Kotex in the old flathead fords. Seemed to work great, but then they were not full flow filters.

AutoZone has free replacement pads for life of car when you buy pads from them. Just go get a new set.

Sounds like a punch line to a blond joke.
Oh yes mam, good thing you brought it in, your brake pads really needed rotating!

All of you grammar morons out there: You LEND something to be used (an action). The object of what you lend is the loan, whether it is money or equipment. Another ubiquitous grammar moron choice of words is "impact" to mean "affect". A hammer blow is an "impact", the nail being driven into the wood, is the "affect". We are now a nation of illiterates.
